Volier Johnson Gone To Another Stage

Volier Johnson

Outstanding Jamaican actor, Volier Johnson has passed on to another world - his performance on earth has come to an end and may his soul rest in peace. He was a past student of St. Andrew Technical High School in Kingston.

Volier has delighted his stage audiences for over fifty years. I remember seeing him for the first time perform at UTech Jamaica, in a play called Rose Slip (If my memory serves me right). This was I think in 1974 or 1975. Marjorie Whylie and Pauline Stone were a part of that production. I eventually joined Volier and other cast members in the play Stanley, Fay, Pularchie and P which was staged at the Ward Theatre and also when it was produced for RJR radio.

He has done some memorable plays with actors like Pauline Stone, Oliver Samuels and Deon Silvera not only in Jamaica but also overseas. Although Volier had health challenges later on in life, he continued to excite his audiences with his creative performances.

Volier Johnson is one of those actors who became the character on stage and therefore when he appeared on stage you were convinced that this was a real character. Volier has a natural gift for acting and his portrayal of many humerous roles had audiences falling out of their seats.

Walk good my friend. Jamaica will certainly miss you. To your family I say, be strong. Your Volier was awesome!
