JLP Rejects Call for PM Holness To Step Down

Release From The Jamaica Labour Party - 20240918

Jamaica Labour Party Rejects PNP Call For Prime Minister to Step Down, says Bunting and Golding Should Resign

Jamaica Labour Party spokesperson, Juliet Cuthbert-Flynn, is rejecting as desperate and unwarranted a call from the PNP for Prime Minister Andrew Holness to demit office immediately.

The Jamaica Labour Party maintains that the Integrity Commission report upon which the PNP premised its call had found the Prime Minister culpable of no wrong doing. In fact, the Director of Corruption Prosecution was clear in suggesting that the Prime Minister's explanation is credible and therefore prosecution is unwarranted.

The Jamaica Labour Party wishes to make it clear that the Prime Minister will remain in office.

Mrs. Cuthbert-Flynn says -  "I understand that the PNP out of desperation wants to see the back of the most positively consequential Prime Minister that Jamaica has seen in recent times, who has skillfully led our country through multiple crises and has not been implicated in unbecoming or unlawful conduct. I expect some PNP affiliated groups which position themselves as civil society to shortly echo the call of the PNP. However, the position taken by the PNP is desperate, baseless and without merit. It is important to note that unlike some individuals in the PNP, the Prime Minister does not hide his assets in Trusts", Mrs. Cuthbert-Flynn commented.

Mrs. Cuthbert-Flynn says the Integrity Commission report which extensively examined the financial affairs of the Prime Minister and did not involve public funds, does not rise to the level of then Office of the Contractor General (OCG) investigation into the 'Alleged Dehring, Bunting and Golding Sweetheart Deal' which found that Peter Bunting and Mark Golding's company arrived at a deal with the then PNP-administration, involving public funds, which was conducted via an "irregular and highly improper" process.

Cuthbert-Flynn further noted that investigators from the anti-corruption body which probed the 'Alleged Dehring Bunting and Golding sweetheart deal' found reason to caution against "use of a corruption enabling device which can be utilized by unscrupulous public officials to direct lucrative multi-million dollar state contracts to connected or desired contractors".

In further rejecting baseless calls by the PNP for the Prime Minister to step-down, Mrs. Cuthbert-Flynn further stated -

"The fact of the matter is given the findings of the OCG probe, which is on the record of the parliament of Jamaica, it is Peter Bunting and Mark Golding who should immediately demit the post of Opposition Leader and Opposition Senate Leader. Bunting and Golding's current posture confirms they should never have been allowed near leadership positions which were assumed by virtue of them being members of a party which claims to take itself seriously but has become an organization of gimmicks and expediency."

  3. Do the PNP under Mark Trump and Peter Vance think Jamaicans cannot see through their Make Anancy Great Again scheme. They are in this for the money and nothing else. How could any good politician who serve the people lose his seat as MP? It is PROVEN that he cares nothing about the people. He and his cronies are demanding a crime plan and cannot protect his home from being robbed? What kind of Minister of National Security is that? Mark Trump, do you care any for the people gifted to you by the Dr Davies, or are you just another Drifter who sings a Christmas Carol to get cheap votes? Perhaps more a Grifter than a Drifter. Yuh nuh ready fi lead Jamaica.

    1. Stop with the equivocation. The JLP is in power now and the PM should be held accountable.
