Another War Is Imminent - The World Is On Watch!

The world is seeing a few wars at this time. All indications are that another war is in the making. The US could attack Iran in a few days. There is a significant buildup of US military power in the Middle East. 

When you have these wars, Jamaicans might feel that they have nothing to do with us. This is not an assumption we should make. For example, the dispute with Venezuela impacted Cuba, and this resulted in Cuba not getting oil from Venezuela. There is now not enough fuel for planes to refuel in Cuba. Our students studying in Cuba are now faced with the decision to remain in Cuba or leave without completing their courses of study.

Will this possible war with Iran affect us? Will it affect the supply of oil and crucial trade routes? The tension is building, another war is imminent, and whether we like it or not, we have to be on a side. This is not a matter of whether we support Donald Trump or not. It is about the US, our friend, that is engaging in another deadly conflict.

I don’t see the US missing this opportunity to attack Iran at this time, given the fact that the Iranian government is only functioning because of its ability to suppress public uprisings. 

The land area of Iran is approximately 1.5 million square kilometres with a population of 88 million people. Jamaica's population is approximately 3 million. It is indeed a massive country in comparison to our land area of 10,990 sq. kilometres.

Iran controls key positions along the Strait of Hormuz, where a significant amount of the world's oil passes through. Restrictions in this area could cause the price of oil to skyrocket, and this would hurt the world, and that includes Jamaica. There are reports in the international media that there is a partial closure of this strait.

While we must not panic, we must be prepared as best as we can. The people need to be advised as to what is overshadowing the world now. The effect of this war, if it is not swift and decisive, could be multiple times worse than Category 5 Hurricane Melissa.

Let us pray and hope for peace, although it does not seem as if this one will pass. Within another week, the picture should be clearer.
