The Hunts Bay Police are
questioning an 18-year-old woman in relation to a fire which claimed the lives
of three children and injured two others on Booby Drive, Kingston 13 on
Saturday, January 27.
The deceased have been
identified as one-year-old twins – Juvaughne and Jivaughne Bennett – and three-year-old
Krisante Maxwell, all of Booby Drive in the parish.
Reports are that about
12:50 a.m., six children were left in the care of the woman, who subsequently
left the five children in the care of her 13-year-old sibling. It is alleged
that the 13 year old lit a candle which engulfed two dwelling houses on the
premises; she however managed to remove two of the children from the house.
The Police and fire
departments were contacted and the charred remains of Juvaughne, Jivaughne and Krisante were found
in the back room of the house.
The other two children
that were taken from the house were hospitalized in serious condition.
The scene was processed and the charred remains
removed to the morgue pending post mortem examinations.
Damage is estimated at JMD 3.3 million.
The identity of the woman taken into custody is being
withheld pending further investigations.
