Increase in Hackney Carriage and Route Taxi Licences October 1, 2018

Effective Monday, October 1, 2018, the Transport Authority will increase the processing fees for Hackney Carriage and Route Taxi Licence as follows:

1)    Hackney Carriage Licence - new and renewal will now be $25,000.00

2)    Route Taxi Licence – new and renewal will now be $15,000.00

This increase in processing fees will serve to offset the mounting administrative costs associated with the monitoring and regulating of the services being offered to the sector.

Meanwhile, the Authority is reminding prospective licensees that Hackney Carriage road licences are now available in St. James, St. Ann, Westmoreland, Trelawny and Manchester and that some 1,260 routes have been opened across the island for both Rural Stage and Route Taxi licences since September 10, 2018.

The Authority is therefore urging unlicensed operators who provide public passenger transportation services to become compliant with the law now and ensure they legalize their services in order to avoid prosecution as the Liberalization pilot will end on November 30, 2018.

Applicants are also being cautioned to conduct business directly with the Transport Authority and refrain from transacting business with individuals purporting to be agents of the Authority.
