The Jamaica Labour Party condemns the attack of its supporters in SE Clarendon

The ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) condemns the attack on one of its supporters by persons clad in PNP shirts while campaigning in South East Clarendon.

Supporters of the JLP, while campaigning, were set upon by supporters of the PNP.

A JLP supporter trying to videotape the incident was attacked viciously and sustained injuries to his head, back and leg. The attack took place in the community of Jungle, Corn Piece in the Hayes Division.

The matter has been reported to the Hayes Police Station.

General Secretary of the JLP, Dr Horace Chang, who is also Minister of National Security has said “Jamaica has left this sort of politics in the past, this is deplorable behavior on the part of the supporters of the PNP”.

He went on to further state, “this is evidence that not only is the PNP campaigning in the constituency but that desperation is setting in”.

Dr Chang has called on the Police to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice quickly, and is demanding that the PNP reign in its supporters, and allow the campaign to continue in a civilized fashion. All well thinking Jamaicans should join this call.

Report to the Political Ombudsman

The country should also be aware that the matter has been reported to the Political Ombudsman. The JLP sees this as yet another incident that forms a worrying trend. Evidence of the trend has been sent to the Ombudsman and is attached for reference.
