A number of Jamaicans are getting fed up with the level of crime and although it is wrong for citizens to take justice into their own hands, one has to understand that persons are frustrated that some of these criminals. These criminals are literally getting away with murder. If they are caught, it takes years for some of these criminals to be brought before a court and by then some witnesses have died, some are no longer around and many who are around, are afraid to testify.
Many of these criminals could save time by just pleading guilty, but they are able to get the best lawyers to defend them sometimes and these lawyers find it easy to punch holes into the cases against them. If there mislead the court and are then found guilty then the punishment should be very severe.
Researchers at our universities should do a study to find out how much it costs tax payers to take these cases through the judicial system. When these guys are found guilty all their assets should be seized. They should be made to do hard labour not only to pay for the harm they have done, but also to pay for the cost of their court proceedings and their upkeep while incarcerated.
