This video which can be seen above and at the link below was sent to me today.  This video shows Min. Warming having a tense moment with members of the police force. We need to look at this video and have a discussion about what transpired. It should be understood that the video will not necessarily tell the full story. This video should not be seen as just about Minister Warmington, but also how we deal with challenges such as this one.

The police hierarchy should check on this matter and send out a release immediately answering these questions and more:

• Was the police at the location before Mr. Warmington and Mr. Warmington went to the location after, or it was the other way round.
• Did Minister Warmington commit an illegal act and what was being done to deal with this infraction?
• Has Mr. Warmington been charged for an offence?
• Did Mr. Warmington have any confrontation before with any of the officers?
• Was the police officers called to deal with a challenge at that location?
• Did Mr. Warmington interfere with the police in the carrying out their lawful duties?

Whether we like it or not, a political representative is not like any other citizen. If a member of parliament does something wrong, then there ought to be a process to deal with it or else you can have major challenges in the future.

For example, can you imagine if the police officers should decide to lock up half of the Cabinet or even lock up the Prime Minister? A system must be put in place to deal with persons in certain positions of leadership when they commit certain acts. Note that in the past, we have locked up members of the opposition and detained them during a state of emergency.

Can you imagine if any police officer could just lock up any Minister of Government, the Police Commissioner or the Head of the JDF!

Mr. Warmington's behavious is another matter and should be looked at. A member of  parliament suggested this week that we should have a code of  conduct for our political leaders.  If you had that, and someone saw an MP fighting with another persons for example, then that MP could be reported to a special committee of parliament. This could be done whether or not the abused person was willing to testify or not.
