Police Federation Has New Chairman

Sergeant Arlene McBean

Sergeant Arleen McBean has been elected chairman of the Jamaica Police Federation, This is her second stint as chairman of the Federation. She is the first female to head the Police Federation.

Based on information in the news, it is clear that there are some sharp divisions in the force.

Bunting the Opposition Spokesperson on crime while addressing the conference was stopped in his tracks when a member raised a point of order. Another member objected to the point of order being raised. The Chairman of the conference allowed Senator Bunting to continue his speech.

The bitter battle between the high command and the former head of the Police Federation Rohan James continues in the courts

With the high level of crime, we need a united police force. I appeal to the high command of the JCF to offer the olive branch to Rohan James. The dragging out of this matter in the courts has resulted in further divisions. This is not in the national interest. We prefer to fight it out rather than to have mediation!

Will Sergeant Arleene McBeen be allowed to speak freely as Chairman of the federation?

  1. Speaking freely as head of an organization requires knowledge of the constitution, a full understanding of the current situation, consultation and discussion with your Board with the understanding that we must agree to disagree and that MY opinion is not what goes! Your opinion may run your household, it does not run a Board room! Consultation, best practices and considered best solutions and if needed the result of a vote do. Collective responsibility! Uneasy lies the Head.....

  2. I agree with you Mr Derby, this has drawn out too long, need to nip it now, why even when it's a woman they use the word chairman? I know the bright gonna come with their gender neutral mobo jumbo, but I don't like it

    1. We have always referred to the person who chairs something as Chairman and the term is not used to indicate the sex of the person.

    2. Majoring in the minor (chairman/wonan) is negligible in the grand scheme of things. Why waste our energies on trivial matters when there are more important things to fuss about

  3. Congratulations! Madam Chairwoman Mcbean, as you continue to stand up for your country and Police federation. Whenever, we continue to belittle each other's with all these fancy words and then hold each other in grip neck lock, and no one wants to let go. This is sending the wrong signals to the entire country. It is time for solution! I just cannot understand why we keep going backwards, when we should be going forward.
