TODDS Will Not Participate in The Withdrawal of Transportation Services

Press Release From TODSS - 2024/06/02

Edgton Newman

The Transport Operators Development Sustainable Service (TODSS) has rescinded its decision to support or participate in the withdrawal of service or demonstration. The aim was to urge the government to suspend the planned automatic suspension of driver’s licenses for persons with 10 demerit points or more.

The government requested we submit our concerns in writing. Three stakeholders met on Thursday, May 30, 2024, and we sent our concerns to the government on Friday, May 3, 2024, at 1100 am. The correct thing to do is to wait for a response from the government before taking any action. Taking any form of strike action at this time would not be the right course of action.

We want to make it abundantly clear that the public transport sector is defending all sides; the government, the investors and operators in the transport sector.  The government needs to review the public transportation system policies in Jamaica.

We expect the government to move with alacrity in responding to the submission, bearing in mind that hundreds of drivers in the sector will lose their licenses in the next few days if the Island Traffic Authority begin the suspension of driver’s licenses.

  3. THE INDISCIPLINE OF THE SO TERMED 'SHOTTA DRIVERS' SHOULD NOT BE ENCOURAGED
NEWMAN HAS CONSISTENTLY SUPPORTED SLACKNESS BY THOSE HE SAYS HE REPRESENTS
"YES! " SOME OPERATORS MAY BE TARGETED BY POLICE BUT THE MAJORITY OF THOSE ISSUED TICKETS CONSTANTLY FLAUNT THE LAWS, AND BRAG TO THEIR ASSOCIATES HOW "THEM POLICE BWOY CAAN CATCH ME"

  4. Why they want to strike for that? Only when you rule with a iron fist they listen and take heed. Take them away and give them to who's willing to follow the rules. Them could strike little more, of they're to loose them let it be.we need order in this little country,

  5. 1. End shuttle taxi service with immediate effect.
    2. Find a sustainable path towards a transit orientated development (TOD) for the entire country.
    3. Public transport buses that ply the rural route should terminate at the city limits.
    4. Establish city limits for all our towns and urban areas. Imagine, Jamaica is an island state and it has no city limits.
    5. Pedestrianise all town centres.
    6. Prioritise a world-class transportation hub for Portmore.
    7. Acquire remaining lands needed to expand and fully build out the Halfway Tree Transportation Centre to accommodate all means of public transport.
    8. Build light rail as mass transit to move passengers within our towns.

  7. What passes for government has no control over Jamaica, thus the country tumbles along out of control.

Criminals, vagabonds and scoundrels runs things.
There needs to be a long term plan for transportation even a British,American or Canadian model could work.

While we are distracted with talk of who has British,Israeli,Canadian or American papers the country goes deeper into a hell hole.

As I take public transportation you hear what real people want
Most would take British,American or Canadian papers any day.

Those passports and travel documents make life easier travelling the world.

Only a fool would give that up is the mass opinion out there.

Do they want a Republic to turn Jamaica into another Haiti?.The people say no.

Better to remain close to or evenngoing forward to being a colony of Britain, America and Canada than descend into a morass of chaos and disorder over a Mt Rosser gully or self strangulation down a Spur Tree Hill gully side.
