All Airports and Aerodromes To Reopen BY July 5

Press Release From The JIS - 2024/07/04:

The Sangster International Airport (SIA) in Montego Bay was scheduled to reopen on Thursday (July 4) at 6:00 p.m., while the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) in Kingston is expected to reopen on Friday (July 5) at 5:00 a.m.

This, following their closure due to the passage of Hurricane Beryl on Wednesday (July 3).

An Airports Authority of Jamaica (AAJ) statement on Thursday indicated that there was no major damage at SIA to prevent the resumption of normal operations.             The NMIA sustained damage to sections of the roof of the passenger pier (finger) to which the jet (boarding) bridges are attached, during the hurricane. This also resulted in debris being scattered on the apron (ramp).

However, the runway, terminal and all other facilities are in order to enable the resumption of regular operations. The airport remained closed on Thursday to facilitate the necessary corrective actions to enable the scheduled reopening on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Ian Fleming International Airport (IFIA) in Boscobel, St. Mary, and the three domestic aerodromes - Tinson Pen, Negril and Ken Jones, all reopened at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday.

This followed the requisite inspections, with clearance being given for their reopening, despite minor infrastructural damage in some sections of these facilities, as the runways and terminals are all in good order for operations.

Passengers and other stakeholders within the travel and tourism industry are advised to stay tuned for announcements by the airlines and their respective airports regarding the re-commencement of operations and flights to and from Jamaica
