Let's Remember Them

Readers of Bark Di Trute have been curious about the whereabouts of some individuals who have been out of the spotlight for a while.

Their family members acknowledge the public's role in their success, noting how much they’ve been supported and cared for like family. Many of us want to know how our favourite personalities are doing these days.

Today, I’ll take a closer look at a few of the people you’ve been asking about.

 

A few fans of Derval Malcolm have contacted me because they are anxious to hear what is happening to Derval. The possibility of Derval Malcolm continuing on the radio is diminishing quickly. He is one of the few hardworking people in media who was a man of class. His diction is impeccable, and his command of a few languages was awesome. We are human beings and these things do happen.

Marcia Forbes has all the time for her grand-daughter

Dr. Macia Forbes, the former head of TVJ and she is a part of Phrase 3 Production seems to be doing better these days. Family support is doing a lot for her. She went through a period of illness but she can move around these days. She is now overseas, taking a break from Jamaica, and should be back in the beautiful climate to soak up the sun.

Past President of the Jamaica Theological Seminary and talk show host Reverend Dr. Garnett Roper suffered two minor strokes in the past. He has to be taking it easy these days. He is no longer active in the church and other places I understand.

The Hon. Hugh Gentles, my schoolmate and the Custos of Trelawny is a happy man these days. His wife fought a good fight and with blessings from above, she is still around. Hugh is related to the popular Phillips family, which has been associated with academia and politics. 

The public support for Christopher Seaga, the son of former Prime Minister Edward Seaga, has been overwhelming. I remember the first time I featured him in my blog; in about one week it had over 25,000 views. His kidney transplant was successful, and his astonishing fight to survive has been phenomenal.

This man has been through hell, and he continues to live his life. He certainly appreciates the love and concerns that Jamaicans from all walks of life have shown him. 

Franklin McDonald, the former head of of National Environment and Planning Agency and Director of the Office of Disaster Preparedness (Jamaica), now lives in Canada. He is unable to see, but technology allows him to function very well. Thanks to him for his support of SpotOn with Vernon Derby and Bark Di Trute.
