National Identification System is Here!!!

Yes... Yes...Yes...The National Identification System is here. Many of us as citizens have campaigned for this for many years. This will be a turning point for our country. It will help ensure accountability in the distribution of government benefits. Now every man woman and child will be able to be identified. You must have heard me on the radio for the last 12 or more years campaigning for this to happen.

We are on the road to being able to identify the criminal elements in society easier - by their ID - No alias. I am sure that many will not want to register. If they don't want to, then they will have to prove that they are Jamaicans. Can you imagine when the gang member goes to the hospital and he has to register using his national ID? To get a job your employer would be able to verify if you are a Jamaican or not!

The next step is to introduce ticketing for most offences using our National Identification System. Break the law, get your ticket, pay for your ticket. There is no need to pack up the prisons with persons who do not pose a danger to the society.

Lord, Jamaica needs order in this country. Let's hope the state will use this system to put some order in this country.

It is a pity that they did not allow all of us to enter our names to be selected to be the first to receive that National Identification. It would be a historic event for that lucky citizen and something to be celebrated as the first citizen to have their National Identification. The Governor General and the Prime Minister should be the last persons to be a part of the system. This would indicate that we put the people first.

A release yesterday from Jamaica House states that the Government of Jamaica achieved a monumental milestone on Friday, November 15, 2024, with the official issuing of the first set of national identification cards under the Integrated National Identification System. This landmark event signals the beginning of a new era in secure identification and digital transformation for Jamaicans.

There are other benefits of the system but I believe the authorities do not want to state them because people might not want to register. The National Identification System should be helpful in the fight against crime. I am not a criminal so I will be at the head of the line to register for my National Identification!

    1. It is clear that we need a public education programme. So much ignorance. I recall a few months ago a piece of land was being cleared for development. The contractors had to stop because they unearthed a decomposed body. If we had NIDS in It's original form then some family could have had closure. There's
no way to know who this missing person is. We give our fingerprint willingly to the US government because we want to travel, but we hesitate to do so in our own country to help our crime problem. Such a shame.
