The Meteorological Service has:
Downgraded the Flash Flood Warning to a Flash Flood Watch for low-lying and flood-prone areas of St. Mary, Portland, St. Thomas, St. Andrew, Kingston, St. Catherine and Clarendon, effective until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2024.
Discontinued the Flash Flood Watch for low-lying and flood-prone areas of all other parishes effective immediately.
The broad Trough across the western Caribbean continues to produce a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms across the region including Jamaica. Rainfall data indicate that light to moderate and occasionally heavy showers and thunderstorms have been affecting mainly sections eastern and south-central parishes, throughout today.
The forecast is for periods of light to moderate showers and thunderstorms to continue mainly across eastern and south-central parishes through to Saturday morning.
Consequently, due to the extensive rainfall over the past few days, there remains the possibility for flash flooding to occur even during periods of light to moderate showers.
Fisher and other marine interests, especially those operating across southern offshore marine zones, are urged to exercise extreme caution as sea conditions will continue to deteriorate in the vicinity of showers, thunderstorms and strong winds.
A FLASH FLOOD WARNING means flooding has been reported or will occur shortly.
Motorists and pedestrians should not attempt to cross flooded roadways or other low-lying areas as strong currents are likely. Residents in low-lying areas should be on the alert for rising waters and be ready to move quickly to higher ground.
A FLASH FLOOD WATCH means that flash flooding is possible, and residents are advised to take precautionary measures, keep informed by listening to further releases from the Meteorological Service and be ready for quick action if flooding is observed or if a Warning is issued.
