The Jamaica Olympic Association Dissed Babsy?

Minister Olivia Grange

Ed Barnes

While the country zooms in on various issues, there is one issue that is simmering below the surface, and while it might not explode like a volcano, it will have a major impact on the country's future. Jamaica has done well in sporting activities over the years, and this has made this little country a world power. It seems to me that all is not well in the halls of sports.

Today I present another viewpoint from Ed Barnes. This should not be ignored. Those who love sports and also love their country need to share their comments about Ed Barnes' comments and add other comments about sports. The nation will be listening to you.

The private sector and the public sector support sports; therefore, this matter is not a private one. I have tried unsuccessfully to get to the President of the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) and also the communication person at Minister Grange's office. I also understand that elections are coming up for the JOA but persons who are not currently on the executive have not expressed interest in the elections!

  1. The recent news about the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) hosting a function to honor Jamaican athletes at the Paris Olympics has raised concerns due to the Minister of Sport not being invited. This oversight reflects a troubling disregard for established protocols that govern such significant events.
The Minister of Sport plays a vital role in supporting our athletes, and excluding this key figure undermines the collaborative spirit essential for sports development in Jamaica. Such actions can create unnecessary rifts between governmental bodies and sporting organizations.
Furthermore, this behavior sets a poor example for the sports fraternity. Leaders in sports administration must adhere to accepted protocols and demonstrate respect for all stakeholders involved. Personal feelings should not interfere with professional conduct, as unity is crucial when celebrating our athletes' achievements.

  2. By not inviting the sports minister, the JOA missed an opportunity to showcase collaboration between government and sports organizations. The minister plays a crucial role in advocating for athletes and securing funding for sports development. This absence sends a message that the JOA does not value governmental support, potentially alienating future partnerships that could benefit Jamaican athletes

  3. The decision has sparked criticism from athletes and the public, as it appears dismissive of the minister's role in promoting sports in Jamaica. This could lead to a negative perception of the JOA, suggesting a lack of respect for governmental contributions to athletics. Such public relations missteps can damage the organization's credibility and hinder its ability to engage with sponsors and stakeholders who prioritize collaboration with government entities
