One of the challenges we face as a nation is the problem of what we call 9-day wonder. This might not just be a Jamaican phenomenon but a challenge which people from across the world face. We continue to fall into the same pit that we have fallen in before.
Things remain the same because as soon as something happens we forget about it. One strategy of some leaders in the public and private sector is don't respond. They will forget about it soon.
Man Who Died At The Sangster International Airport This Year
How many of us remember the case of the man who fell and died at the Sangster International Airport this year? Was an autopsy done and if so what are the results? Has anyone sued anyone for failure to ensure the safety of this man? Have we heard from Jet Blue? His relatives have all gone quiet!
Mysterious Plane Crash in Clarendon
That mysterious plane which crashed landed in Clarendon some years ago. What came out of those investigations? Is the case dead?
Murder of Air Jamaica Executives
The murder of two Air Jamaica Executives, Noel Rennie and Lloyd James - can anyone say what came out of those cases?
Mysterious Ganja Plane at Vernam Field
Who remembers the case of some army members who tried to stop what appeared to be a ganja plane from disappearing from Vernam Field some years ago? Do you remember the report in the Gleaner that the officers came under heavy gunfire from the occupants of the plane? 😀
The Kissing St James High Girls
What is the latest on the kissing girls in St. James who were expelled or transferred to other schools? Jamaica for Justice had a lot to say about that case. What has happened since?
Civics in Schools
Civis was to be reintroduced in schools. Has the subject been introduced in all schools?
Auditing of Educational Institutions
A former Minister of Education had said he would ensure that all schools would be audited, and the administrators would be required to produce audited financial statements annually. Is that happening now?
Permanent Temporary Workers
We have had persons working temporarily permanently for years and therefore have been denied certain benefits. When will we have a law to deal with that? How about those who hold top jobs temporarily - they refer to them as acting in the post or they call it a Interim position.
The Death Penalty
The death penalty is still on the books. We have been talking about this for a long time. When will this matter be addressed as to whether we will resume the death penalty? Jamaica is indeed a criminal's paradise!
Audit of Integrity Commission
We are yet to be told if the Integrity Commission has been audited. I am not talking about presenting audited financial statements Mr. Panton. We are talking about the auditing of the department.
Fixed Elections Date
Have we forgotten the idea of having fixed election dates?
Apartheid System in Secondary Schools
When will we discontinue the apartheid system of Education? Some schools are referred to as traditional high schools and some as new secondary schools. They are treated differently. The testing system for the selection of children who go to Campion College while other children go to Tarrant High for example.
Assessing Our Schools and Students
I was hoping by now schools and students would be accessed by how many of them graduate after high school competent at the grades 11, 10, 9 or 7 level. Also, can someone tell me why we promote children to grade 7 in a secondary school when they can't even read and write? We should consider promoting students from year 1 to the next year at the university even if they are not competent in the work for the year that they have just completed.
Which One Dem Mi Lef Out
I know, I have left out many things. I have also forgotten them. Remind me by adding them as comments.

While I may not recall specific cases, what ever became of the number of instances of guns and ammunition finds both at the ports and in upper St. Andrew homes?
ReplyDeleteThere have also been a few suspicious murder cases that have seemed to fade into thin air. Remember the case of the murder victim being found in the downstairs living room while the homeowner slept upstairs (and there was no sign of forced entry).
We are really a country of the 9 day wonder!! Psst is there still talk of illicit gain??
