What The Hell Happened In Halfway Tree This Afternoon

I just got a report that there were challenges in Halfway Tree this afternoon, but I have been unable to get any further details from citizens or the police.

However, I received this video shown below, which tells a story:

Bark Di Trute Supporter Thanks JPS

I must thank the staff and heads of the various organizations who have been very responsive when matters are brought to their attention. Last week I brought a matter to the attention of the JPS, and they jumped on this one quickly. I know some issues are still outstanding for the JPS, so I am asking my readers to update me on these matters.

Are We Ready For A Strong Earthquake?

I have been talking with a few people about Jamaica's earthquake readiness. Most people feel that we are not ready. Recently, we heard in the news that a stairway on a building at Torrington Park collapsed. Imagine if we had an earthquake; probably all those buildings would have collapsed and the occupants killed.

One knowledgeable person about earthquake matters said if there was a tsunami after the last tremor in Jamaica, then persons on the north coast would not have been able to escape the tsunami's wrath. The tsunami could have reached our north coast in about half an hour. He said that a tsunami travels about 400 miles per hour.

My understanding is that when there is an earthquake, the Earthquake Unit at the UWI first informs the Ministry of Agriculture. I presume the responsible minister would be informed, and then he would prepare a statement for release. This bureaucratic system is similar to the cumbersome procurement system in Jamaica. By the time a political leader gets to tell the people, the people on the coast would be covered by a few meters of water.

One person asked, how would we evacuate Portmore if a tsunami was going to hit that area?

I don't know the answer to that one!
