Cutting away crumbling edges of potholes removing weak sub base and making a square or rectangle for patching is recognised good practice and results in a stronger patch. The negligence is not in the method but in leaving the hole so it is a danger to the public.
ReplyDeleteMy experience on roads such as Fairdene Avenue, Elizabeth Avenue in Kingston and others, is that the potholes reappear in a few month's time after being repaired. Something is definitely wrong with how we patch roads. It would be interesting if we accounted for the total funds spent on each road annually.
