I posted a blog and allowed readers to say whether they believe that Opposition Leader Mark Golding should retain his British citizenship. I present the results in this blog. Note that this is not a scientific poll and was only intended to get the opinions of my readers.
Opinions from the readers on Mark Golding retaining his British citizenship:
- He did not apply for it.
- He's a British citizen because his father is a British citizen, must be renounce his father and his family. He's domiciled here and has been for years, so let the man be. Too much hypocrisy in this country. How many of us maintain homes here and there, politicians, business people etc. The person's integrity is what counts.
- He can actually do whatever he wants, but he can't remain opposition leader if he wants to keep his British citizenship.
- Our desire is to be a repΓΊblic. We do not want a white British man to lead us, especially as it is believed he is a decendant of slave owners.
- If he's to be a major player in our politics his single allegiance should be Jamaica.
- You can only serve one master (at a time)!
- He is a British citizen by descent not by choice. Change the Jamaican Constitution so there can be no Dual citizenship
- If dual citizenship is allow, I do not see this as a major problem. Many of our Jamaica only citizens are destroying Jamaica.
- If the country is part of the Commonwealth such as Canada π¨π¦ he could. Is England a part of the Commonwealth? I don't think so.
- Why, he has proven that his loyalty is to Jamaica.
- Mark Golding is a commonwealth citizen so he has nothing to renounce
- In the past, others seeking to be in representational politics were asked to resind their citizenship in another country. Therefore, Mr. Golding should be required to do the same. If he refuses, then the choice offered to everyone having this experience should be opened to him...resign.
- If he wishes to be Prime Minister he must give up his British citizenship and if he wants to be seen as a credible person or politician at all he must stand by his earlier pronouncement on morality.
- Was he born in the UK or JA?. I was born in Jamaica and now live in the United States, does that mean that If I return to JA to live and keep my USA status I will have no say ….?
- He should relinquish that now...it cannot be that he his saying one think and doing another. He is FLIP FLOPPING...and we are not approving of his behavior.
- This red Hering as they say drowning man grab after straw that's what is happening to the JLP Mark should not because the JLP says so he is fully inline with the constitution and Mr Vaz should come clear because everyone knows that the detailed information he gave re Mark's passport application did not come from any one in the PNP what he did now makes Jamaicans more sceptic about their information in the hands of this government
- As prime Minister he should be 100% Jamaica
- If the constitution that a member of the commonwealth can sit or be a sitting member in our parliament...why should he not keep his citizenship..as long as he does not renew his British passport during that period...I am fine with it. The public today does not know the truth about Edward Seaga to this date.
- If it is against the law he should give it up
- He should relinquish the British citizenship NOW. He cannot continue to be flip flopping as if this thing is a joke. I am saddened by his behavior, taking Jamaicans for fools, those days are long gone.
- He is not breaching the constitution. Bobby, Mathew and Tom should give up theirs too. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. As the govt get a little insecuritt because of result from the ocal government election,, suddenly, Mark citizenship is a problem . What a thing!
- Allegiance must be to one country if you're representing in Parliament.
- He is a British Citizen because his father was British and Jamaican law doesn't require him to relinquish his British Citizenship in order to be in the Jamaican Parliament. He cannot change the fact that his father was British. He was born in Jamaica.
- Yes, it is a moral issue before it is a constitutional issue, leaders must lead by example.
- I dot want a british prime minster. We are lesving the monorchy.

To begin English is the language of the English man all the laws are British.
ReplyDeleteJamaica was under British rule from 1655 to 1962 that is 307 years of brainwashing and cultural desanitization.
Jamaicans are therefore more British than anything else.
Marky G retaining his British Citizenship is good as its on the road to a multipolar road.
What will a Rebublic bring but a local Backra replacing the British one.
Since the colonizer dumped us off as a really economic burden so Independence was convenient.
We picked up in furtherance of a most murderously Independent and 2nd most poverty in the Caribbean today.
I have no.problem with Marky G retaining his British papers.
Arrange for our 3million population to get British Citizenship.
If he can pull that off he would win elections till they have to sun him
That would be Bye Bye to USA Embassy long line,UK visa and for most others countries in the world.
Jamaicans should go get citizenship for as many countries because once born Jamaican always Jamaican.
That's why we nuffi Badmind Marky G because di whole a we would love the convenience of no embassy lines.
Interesting comment. Don’t forget that there are exceptions to every rule. White people helped us to be free from slavery. At times they treat us better than our own black people. I would think that some one coming from a one room situation in Spanish Town would understand what that experience is like and do their best to elevate other disenfranchised citizens. But not so. Spanish Town is one of the most deplorable places in Jamaica especially when you think that it was once the capital. It’s disgraceful just an example. At least Seaga took down the zinc fences in Tivoili
ReplyDeleteJAMAICAN LIVIZENS or CITIZENS?
DeleteWell said EPG Seaga although born American he went to the USA embassy and renounced his American citizenship on his own without prompting.
More Jamaicans having citizenship in other prosperous countries is good for the country.
Citizenship for wealthier countries is all about survival pragmatism.
If someone is born somewhere you could renounce until the chickens come home to roost you can go back for your original status.
THE
I am sure if all Jamaicans had the option to choose citizenship from the following:
Russia π·πΊ
Cuba π¨πΊ
China π¨π³
Barbados π§π§
USA πΊπΈ
Ghana π¬π
UK π¬π§
Guyana π¬πΎ
Ethiopia πͺπΉ
Jamaica π―π²
what outcome would you predict:
Squatters about half of the population would be gone before daylight.
All deejays and singers gone, higglers gone, politicians wavering or capturing what's left of Jamaica.
That 1-2% owning 95% of the Jamaican economy most would remain .
In the end the population would plummet to about 289,899 from 2.9million "livizens".
If you examine the phenomenon you will.realize JAMAICA IS NOT A COUNTRY BUT A PLACE WHERE PEOPLE LIVE TEMPORARILY, UNALIVE AND VISIT.
A TOURIST DESTINATION EXTRAORDINAIRE
Are you a JAMAICAN LIVIZEN or CITIZEN you have to renounce YOUR LIVIZENSHIP to become a Jamaican CITIZEN.
ReplyDeleteif you did a poll you may discover that most of your coniticians/politicians are just LIVIZENS.
It could be CILIVENS or LIVIZENS is there a difference SIR BARKE DI TRUTE?
