The Transport Authority says over the last 3 months, it has intensified its enforcement drive against illegal operators providing taxi services through UBER and INDRIVE Apps. These operations have resulted in the seizure of 273 such vehicles operating illegally island-wide.
Managing Director, Ralston Smith, says the Authority will continue its enforcement drive by way of covert operations, augmented by special seizure teams to ensure compliance with the law. He is urging operators who have intention of transporting commuters for a fee to apply for their road licence as they could be fined up to $100,000.00 or imprisonment for 2 months for operating without a road licence.
In the meantime, the Authority is encouraging commuters to ensure that they take only legally operated vehicle, with a red plate at all times. Commuters are also asked to report white licence plate numbers that show up to transport them, offering public passenger vehicle services for a fee/fare, when they make a call or book a service online via the UBER/INDRIVE Apps, by sending us a Whatsapp at 876-551-8196 or 876 279-8515.
