MP Everald Warmington, walking out of the House of Parliament this week after he was sworn in as MP, has set tongues wagging. People have their own theories about what caused Mr Warmington's dramatic exit from parliament. Media houses claimed he snubbed his colleagues, but I am not aware of any MP making that point. Probably, MPs supported his action!
Parliamentarians are people like all of us. They have their issues, challenges and good things happening to them just like the rest of us. Many times, we are hard on our politicians, and they are sometimes to blame for that. They engage in tearing down one another for political reasons, and that has damaged the name of politicians and politics.
Mr Warmington, in his Warmington style, used the swearing-in to make a point. We don't know what point he was making. Those who are close to him might know. It is normal for people to take protest action when they object to something or they want to show their support for something.
There is no other politician like Everald Warmington. Many of us do not like the tone of his utterances, but we have to look at the facts and nothing but the facts. The good thing about Warminton is that he has not been convicted of any crime, and he is not afraid to call a spade a spade.
We have to respect the will of the people who elected him. If the JLP tries to remove him from his constituency, that could be the death knell for the party.
Given time, we will hear from Mr Warmington. We might not even hear from him because those for whom the protest was intended will deal with his issues. This is all about politics, and this is not unique to Jamaica. Time will tell.
In the meantime, we have a country to run, and we cannot continue to spend time speculating on the actions of an MP. Warmington will continue to be Warmington. He will tell you as it is, even if it is in an unpalatable way. One thing we can agree on is that he will not be a hypocrite. Once again, he has gained very strong support from his constituents, and he knows that he cannot be pushed around.

The most atrocious behaviour comes from many of our leaders. So we accept it because its politics. Poor us. Many of us support this behaviour too!

He is very versed at calling a spade a fork, or a tree a rock, or a mountain a valley. Absolutely unacceptable behaviour, utterances, and content of the utterances, and an indictment on any party that embraces him, and a people who select him as a representative
ReplyDeleteThink its time Mr Warmington start behaving civilize and act in a prfessional mannr JLP does not revolve around him he has no manners and the Party cannot do without him. If he is upset about something this was not the time or the place for such nasty behaviour shame on him.
ReplyDeleteMr Warmington is one MP who takes his work that he promised His constituents to do and do it well. He is more genuine than most of them in Parliament. He just cannot deal with the hypocrisy of some of His MPs.
ReplyDeleteThis is arrogant disrespect to the people who elected him and ultimately our governance structure....I am a lowly teacher if I walk out of my class I am likely to be dismissed from my job....we must not elevate politicians to God like status where they can do as they please....our constitution is not worth the paper it's written on...it does not protect the people it entrenches the gangs of Gordon house
