Press Release From The Director of Public Prosecutions

Paula Llewellyn CD, KC |
Today, September 19, 2025, is my last day in office as the Director of Public Prosecutions after seventeen (17) years in the post.
Throughout my forty-one (41) years of public service, I have been privileged to have not only given service above self to the public at the highest level but I have worked with and mentored a host of fine professionals in my ODPP family.
To facilitate a seamless transition, my former work email paula.llewellyn@dpp.gov.jm will remain active for about three (3) weeks after I leave office. I will cherish all the memories that I shared with my ODPP family, as well as stakeholders over the years, who have made my tenure in public office a committed and meaningful journey for example, law enforcement agencies, the media, court staff, Department of Corrections, the Judiciary sitting in the Court ofAppeal, Supreme Court and Parish Court, Court Reporters, staff at the Ministry of Justice and other Ministries and nongovernmental agencies, embassies, international stakeholders, prosecuting agencies and colleague DPPs across the Caribbean.
As I look forward to my new portfolio called "retirement", I am interested with God's help and continued grace to see what lies ahead for PVL. Respect for the cycle of life has obliged me to accept and welcome the inevitability of this new stage of life. I will however treasure the memories of the challenges and successes even while I know that I will miss many positive aspects of my previous journey and of course, quite a few persons who I have interacted with both locally and internationally along the way. I am however satisfied beyond a reasonable doubt that after fortyone (41) years as a prosecuting Attorney/ Public Servant, I deserve to take a break... at least for a few weeks.
I will always thank the public including my Church, my former schoolmates and my colleagues both at the public and private bar for their support and prayers over the years. I wish to offer my best wishes for the future to all my previous and present team members and stakeholders in the administration ofjustice.
I take this time to encourage you all to continue being beacons of hope and adherence to positive principles, sources of inspiration and tireless professionals within your particular remit as you serve the people of Jamaica.
On Monday, September 22, 2025, Miss Claudette Thompson, Senior Deputy of Public Prosecutions will assume duties as the Acting Director of Public Prosecutions. It is my earnest hope that the members of team ODPP, all stakeholders and the public locally and internationally will continue to extend the professional courtesies and support to her and the ODPP as was extended to me in my role as DPP.
Miss Thompson's email address is claudette.thompson@dpp.gov.jm and her CUG number is (876) 579 - 8653.
It has been an honour and privilege to live my passion and to facilitate the transformation of the Office to be the biggest preeminent prosecuting agency in the Caribbean with multiple units and the capacity to prosecute all its complex cases, appear in the Court of Appeal and to give advice in a variety of matters.
Thank you all for walking with me on this unforgettable journey in giving service above self in the public interest for Jamaica Land We Love!
Editor's Note
Paula Llewellyn was a servant of the people. She was passionate about her work, and she saw the need to report to the nation on the progress of the Office of DPP. This daughter of the soil was loved by all well-thinking Jamaicans. She was the first female DPP for the country.
May she continue to share her knowledge and experience, especially with those who are unable to get legal information.
