A Message From Godfrey G. Watson OD, To The People of St. Elizabeth

My dear people of St. Elizabeth,

Our beloved parish has suffered a terrible blow. Hurricane Melissa has left behind destruction that has shaken every community, every family, and every heart. Homes have been washed away, crops flattened, and the familiar beauty of our towns and villages scarred by the storm’s fury. I know that many of you are feeling weary, uncertain, and deeply pained.

As founder of the St. Elizabeth Foundation, which has served this parish for more than thirty years, I want to assure you that you are not alone. We have faced challenges before — droughts, floods, and hardship — yet we have always risen again through courage, cooperation, and faith. This time will be no different.

Our first and most urgent task is to ensure the safety of all residents. I am calling on community leaders, churches, schools, and service organizations to help coordinate the evacuation of those in danger to higher and safer ground. Please listen to the authorities and assist the elderly, the sick, and children first. Life must always come before property.

Once safety is secured, we must begin the long but hopeful process of resetting and rebuilding our parish. The St. Elizabeth Foundation will be reactivated to provide leadership, coordination, and assistance in this recovery effort. Together, we will help families return to their homes, farmers to their fields, and our young people to their classrooms.

Let us remember that even in the midst of destruction, God’s hand is still upon St. Elizabeth. The spirit that built this parish — one of strength, love, and faith — still lives in every one of us. Let us comfort each other, share what little we have, and stand together as one family.

May God bless and protect you all.

May He give us wisdom, courage, and unity as we rebuild the land we love so dearly — our St. Elizabeth.
