Breaking News - Change at ODPEM

Prime Minister Andrew Holness

I have been reliably informed that there will be major changes at ODPEM. The former acting head is now assigned to the Office of the Prime Minister. There will be other changes, I understand, and I do hope that the time wasters at ODPEM will pack their bags and go. This is one decisive action the PM has taken, and we need to see more.

We need to clean up ODPEM now because that could be the real disaster.

Failure to deal with this Melissa crisis properly could put the government in an untenable position.

  1. Vernon, it needs much more than that. Proven international expertise is required, maybe they could recruit the previous director, Dr. Barbara Carby or IBM etc to assist. All stakeholders must be represented in the process.

  3. The ODPEM is in need of a major overhaul. I am so pleased to hear that the CEO has gone. Long overdue but to push him sideways to the Office of the Prime Minister is totally wrong. He should have been sacked as he was not bring held to account. Simply put good riddance to bad rubbish. . A celebratory party would be a good idea. This is some of the best news I have read in a long time.

  4. Why is it being moved to the office of the PM? How will that rectify any issues or is the PM looking to take credit for recovery effort? Didn't they know long ago that the body wasn't functioning as intended? Methinks too much political appointments of friends, acquaintances and donors who are unqualified are damaging the country , equally or worse than Melissa! Recovery from a hurricane will come about in the short or mid-term, but cronyism and incompetence in critical offices have serious long-term consequences!

  5. Is that a promotion? Sounds like it. This man must be very good at what he does.

  6. The Director General of ODPEM and his staff was never the problem. It was the politics that was affiliated with it was the problem. The Prime Minister did the right thing when he placed that office back under the OPM. That other Minister was bleeding that agency dry for his own political gains. The management of the agency was never given the chance to manage, because that Minister tends to dictate what happens and who works there. I don't believe that agency was given a proper budget to run it's day to day operations. So you all needs to stop blaming the only person in Jamaica that is qualified and have the experience to deals with the country's disaster management portfolio.
