Government Grants NSWMA JAD 1.5 Billion To Fund Post Melissa Debris Management Work

L - R Shenique Johnson - Debris Management Chair, Edson Kerr - Project and Planning Manager, Kadmiel Martin - Spatial Management and Edward Ward - Regional Operations Manager

Melissa made a historic hit on Jamaica on October 28, 2025. The effects were devastating, with many concrete buildings being reduced to rubble and wooden buildings disappearing in the hurricane. All that was left of a vast area of Jamaica was debris.

Who was going to clean up? You did not have to look far to see that the NSWMA would be best suited to lead the process. It was estimated by an international organization that NSWMA needed trucks to make about 500,000 trips to clean up this national mess of material from buildings and vegetation.

The government had to find JAD 500,000 to start the initial work and JAD 1 billion to continue this massive cleanup campaign

At a press conference today, the executive director of the NSWMA announced that it has reorganized itself to deal with Hurricane Malissa's debris while collecting the domestic waste.

The executive director, Audley Gordon, pointed out that technology is being used to assist the organization in its work. He pointed out that the work will be data-driven and data-focused.

We should watch the various videos in this blog so we know what the NSWMA is doing. Share this blog with your friends and neighbours. There is no reason to listen to the fake information being posted on social media by some people.

  1. The 500, 000 trips to clean up the debris? An international body estimates...what says the local body? 500, 000 JMD plus 1 Billion JMD is 1.5 Billion JMD?
We need dump sites in every parish, and in this scenario a plan. Where is the debris being taken and how it is disposed of? Because we all know our two dump sites are overloaded
