Downtown Kingston Needs Seats and Shades

A waterless fountain.

A listener expresses his concern about the state of downtown. I recall when PM Seaga was leading the country, emphasis was placed on upgrading the park with a fountain, trees and places where people could sit. Downtown Kingston should be a place of beauty and an area where the young and the elderly can sit in comfort and enjoy the surroundings. This will positively impact how our people behave and encourage more interaction.

Here is the message from the listener.

Vernon downtown Kingston needs seats and shades like HWT. The time is very hot and uncomfortable for commuters, and Summer is not here yet. Please let Brogad and Desmond know as dem no tek bus.

This is a matter that the KSAMC and Minister Desmond McKenzie should have a look at as soon as possible.

  1. Yes, yes agreed. Not just that. Downtown needs urgent daily cleaning! Rules need to be established across the entire Jamaica about keeping our streets and sidewalks clean. The nastiness is beyond human understanding. Higglers downtown are extremely nasty! The place is always filthy beside them. Jamaicans need to keep our country clean. Garbage trucks need to clean up public garbage sites daily forever. We need round the clock garbage disposal and pick ups in all 14 parishes forever. The place too nasty man. Jamaicans be better.

  2. I read with interest, the comments about garbage.
When are we the people going to look at the person in the mirror.
Yes I have seen the garbage and it is disgusting.
But if we the people do not throw it where we see it, the place would be kept clean .
.jamaica has a serious plastic bottle problem.
What i do I ask my family and friends to bag their bottles, and I take them to the recycle location.
    It all helps.

  3. If cleanliness is next to Godliness, as the saying goes, then we are at hell’s door. The city, in fact the country is in a deplorable state, disgusting.
I did not like Mr. Seaga but he had a penchant for cleanliness, he had active beautifications projects ongoing. I remember Tom Redcam and Heroes Circle in particular. Is it so challenging to keep our city clean, my God!! Filth is everywhere, garbage on every corner!
Look at Half Way Tree square, outside clock tower plaza going toward HWT Rd, disgusting!
Do the Members of Parliament move around in their constituencies? Have they no civic pride? We, the people have no pride in our surroundings, it is really sad, disheartening and totally unhealthy and this disgusting habit has successfully passed to the next generation.
Effective and efficient garbage collection, recycling, beautification projects, manicured verges, civic pride, compulsory community service for offenders . . . It can be done! It must be done!
