Patois, Parliament and The Brebre Behaviour Of Some Parliamentarians

The behaviour of some members of the Jamaican parliament is despicable. It seems that we want our parliament to take on the dancehall culture, which is appropriate for the dancehall and not for our parliament.

Listen to Bark Di Trute's comments on this matter.

  2. Very few of your perspectives I don't agree with and this is one such. In light of the point the mp from south st james made, I believe it was well made and helps to rattle the minds of those willing to and believe it is a matter of class to sheepishly conform to the mental bondage entrenched in a parliamentary system which is crying out for change to align with a nation that has evolved from a colonial past. Or probably we would agree if the rhetoric came from the other side, or probably we are uncomfortable with the mannerisms and appearance of the specific mp so much that we can look past that to the substance of what she brings to the table. I was skeptical of her but admittedly she is batting very well vs others who just there warming bench. I may not agree with every thing she says but...

    1. Don't worry, my friend; time will tell. After a while, you will understand what I am saying. The lady gave a lecture but no ideas or plans for the development nor the preservations of culture in our country. The speech was basically about herself and very little was in there for the people. She is planning a strategy to be a star politician, and nothing is wrong with that. I am more into action. I have given cultural ideas in my blogs, and I saw nothing in her speech, which proves to me that she knows what she is about. She is good at the English language, though. The current culture minister is big on putting on shows. Being a country girl means nothing to me. Studying at an overseas university means nothing to me. Sustaining our cultural practices, which can make us different, is lacking in Jamaica. Patois by itself is not a culture. Ask the tourists how many of them come here to experience our culture. Culture these days seem to be dancehall and patois. (LOL)

    3. I have been involved in cultural promotion at the JCDC since I was a youngster, to become a board member and chairman of the Festival Song Competition. Brought up in the old-time practices in Trelawny in the 1960s. Performed in patois plays, one of which is now a text for high schools. Worked closely with Miss Lou, Mass Ran and the NDTC and other groups which have done their best to preserve our culture. Yes, man, mi have nuff experience but it a come outa mi 'ead now. Wi a talk bout culture yet wi a fight over Kentucky Chicken. A dat di MP must talk bout. She need fi come talk with me. Ah bwoy.
