JUTC “SPECIAL” BUS DRIVERS HIT THE
ROUTES
Kingston, January 28 - Jamaica Urban
Transit Company (JUTC) Managing Director Colin Campbell heads a list of
managerial staff members who are now fully qualified JUTC bus drivers.
The others include Deputy Managing Director, Kirk Finnikin, Franchise and
Revenue Protection Manager, Radcliffe Lewis, Rockfort Depot General Manager,
Lenworth McCalla, Spanish Town Depot General Manager, Hochoy Gordon, Portmore
Depot Operations Manager Sheldon Smalling and Claims Administrator, Marsha
Whyte.
Mr. Campbell said members of the management staff trained were as drivers
to allow them to experience firsthand what it was like to be serving JUTC
passengers on the road in the role of driver.
The JUTC Managing Director said also these “special” drivers came in
handy to fill in when there was a shortage of regular drivers for whatever
reason.
“I like, like my colleagues in this special category of drivers, enjoyed
the training and now we relish taking to the routes as fully qualified JUTC
drivers to help out whenever we are called upon to do so,” Mr. Campbell said.
Mr. Campbell has done Routes 21 and 22 while Mr. Finnikin and Mrs. Whyte
have done Route 21. Mr. Lewis, who has not yet done a route, considers himself
a “Yard Driver”.
Messrs McCalla, Gordon and Smalling have completed their “Board Exams”
and can now do routes while Dionne Cruickshank, Legal Officer, remains the only
of the JUTC “special drivers” still in training.
JUTC Driver Colin welcomes these young passengers on to his number 21B Extra bus early Wednesday morning, July 27, for the journey into Cross Roads in Kingston. |
JUTC driver and Deputy Managing Director Kirk Finnikin checks his driver card against the Validator just before he leaves to start his Route 21B Extra 2 from Spanish Town to Cross Roads in Kingston. |
