Ángel Soria, born 1987 in Spain, received tuition by Andrés Gomis and Rodrigo Vila at the Conservatori Superior de les Illes Balears. He studied with Marcus Weiss at the MusikAkademie Basel, where he finished his Master of Arts in musical Performance (2012) and Master of Arts in
Musikpädagogik (2014). Angel finished all his studies with honors. At the same time, he is given advice and feedback from Marie Bernardette- Charrier, Jean-Marie Londeix,, Claude Delangle, Sergio Azolinni and Arno Bornkamp.
He won several artistic scholarships, which have enabled him to grow up as a musician. Some of these came from Ministerio de Educación, Instituto Valenciano de la Música, Hochschule für Musik der Stadt Basel, Kiefer Hablitzel Stiftung, Nicati Stiftung, Kultur Rahn Founds, Lyra Stiftung or Juventudes musicales de España. He was winner of the I Concurso de Interpretación Ramón Guzmán, Juventudes Musicales de España and Concurso Yamaha de Cuarteto de saxofones. In the July 2014 he won the 2nd prize at the IV Jean Marie Londeix World Saxophone Competition in Bangkok, Thailand.
He has played with orchestras as Orquesta del Conservatori de les Illes Balears, Orquesta de les Illes Balears, Orquesta Nacional de España, Orquesta de Radio y Televisión Española, Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid y la Basler Festival Orchestra. As a soloist Angel played with several orchestras as Orquesta del conservatori de les Illes Balears, Basler Kammerorchester, Ensemble IMPULS 2011, Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid, Orquesta de Radio y Televisión Española, Thailand Philarmonic Orchestra and Chamber Academy Basel with music by J. Ibert, A. Glazunov, H. P. Kyburz, F. Ibarrondo or D. Milhaud.
Seduced by the saxophone’s sounds and its technical characteristics, he soon engages in the search for new posibilities concerning sounds expressions through various aesthetic paradigms within XXI century written music. This new interest drives him to work on contemporary creation with composers such as Juan José Eslava, Ignacio Miró, François Rossé, Juan María Cué, Félix Ibarrondo, Jose María Sanchez Verdú, Alberto Posadas, Yair Klartag, Jesús Torres, Ramón Lazkano, Heinz Holliger, Beat Furrer or Thierry Alla.
He is member of Sigma Project, a quartet whose driving force is based on a strong commitment towards contemporary musical creation and research through their close collaboration with composers. With Sigma Project he has played in the most important Festivals for Contemporary Music and they gave concerts in Spain, France, Italy, Scotland, México and Switzerland.
Since 2014 he is saxophone professor at the Conservatorio Superior de Castilla y León.
