JPS Teams
Working up to Midnight to Restore Power
January 9, 2017
JPS is advising that its teams will be working up
to midnight to restore supply to customers affected by outages. Customers in
several communities across the island have been affected by power outages resulting from the extremely windy conditions associated with the cold
front affecting the island.
JPS has
further indicated that while it is making every effort to restore supply to as
many customers as possible tonight, the persisting windy conditions are making
restoration difficult and risky for the JPS crews. The abnormal weather
conditions have wreaked havoc on the power system, causing trees and heavy
branches to fall on lines, resulting in blown transformers, blown fuses and
other faults on the system. JPS assures
it customers that all available crews are trying their best to repair the
system, despite the challenges.
In
light of the persisting conditions, to protect the safety of its workers, JPS
will be forced to suspend restoration efforts at midnight and resume at 7:00
o’clock tomorrow, Tuesday, January 10.
In the
meantime, customers may experience delays getting through to the Customer Care
Centre due to the high volume of calls to the Centre at this time.
JPS
apologises for the inconvenience being experienced as a result of the adverse
weather conditions and commits to restoring power in the quickest time
possible.
