The Consumer Affairs
Commission (CAC) has received JAD24.5 million for the “bad gas” ex
gratia fund which was made available by the Ministry of Science, Energy and
Technology through Petrojam Ethanol Limited. The Commission received the funds on
May 14, 2020 and has activated the necessary protocols and systems for paying the funds over to persons who are entitled to receive such payments..
The Consumer Affairs Commission will be making contact with persons who have been successful in their claims submitted during November 2015 and April 2016 regarding 'bad gas' purchased. Consumers will be informed via the media and via the commission's social internet pages about the process for collecting such funds and also the documents which will be required prior to payments being made.
The Commission is
advising consumers who made claims regarding “bad gas” between November 2015
and April 2016, that contact will be made with them individually over the next
two weeks. Consumers will be advised of the process and the documents
that will be required for the collection of this ex-gratia payment.
The CAC made it clear in a press release today, that it will not be accepting any more claims in relation to this matter.
A Virtual Press Conference will be held on Friday May
22, 2020 at 10:00 am where the payment process will be outlined. Consumers will be able to view the press conference on the CAC website.
