A Healthier You
Today I spoke with doctor Elon Thompson about men being afraid
to take care of their health. I said to
him that many men do not take care of themselves and then they end up leaving this world
early for the next - leaving their beautiful ladies to be taken care of by another
man. I told him that many men end up being the living dead. I then pointed out that at that time, it does not make sense going to the doctor, since the doctor can probably heal sick but he definitely cannot raise the dead.
Dr. Thompson said that men should start doing certain checks at the age of 40 years. He mentioned doing your A1C1 test which is a test for your sugar levels. The A1C1 test gives you an idea what your sugar levels were like for the last three months He mentioned that certain underlying conditions can end up causing you to have blood clots, conditions such as diabetes.
He pointed out that we have to look out for high blood pressure, diabetes, prostate and hemoglobin challenges among others.
Dr. Elon Thompson is a Consultant Urologist and former president of the Jamaica Medical Doctors Association.
All Things Covid-19
Melody Haughton - President All-Island Craft Traders and Producers Association and Brian Thelwell, President of the Jamaica Co-operative Automobile and Limousine Tours Limited were my guests this morning and we talked about the challenge of Covid-19. They pointed out that Covid-19 is a worldwide problem and it came like a thief in the night. Melody pointed out that, "We are Jamaicans!".
Melody pointed out that one of the challenges for her group is that they do not own where they operate. They depend on tourists to come to the island. She mentioned also that some persons have been undergoing training. She went on to say that these large interest could partner with her organization to facilitate the upgrading of skills in the sector. She encouraged others to participate in the training programmes.
During the discussion it was mentioned that the world will be
putting its best foot forward so Jamaica should expect serious competition. They agreed that all persons in the industry need to work as one unit. Melody said that the sector needs help and the craft industry is a hidden gold mine.
Brian Thelwell said that tourism and transportation are married. When tourists get to the hotel, they need transportation. Brian said that transport operators suffered tremendously due to covid-19. He said that they got a bit of help from the banks which gave a moratorium on the payments of capital. A few months later they were required to pay the interest. Brian said that they had a meetings with the PM, the Ministry of Finance & The Public Service and the Tourism Minister. He said that some persons got a grant of JAD40,000 but some have not received anything as yet.
Transportation Strike
I understand that there was a strike of transportation operators in St. Elizabeth this morning. This was reported on air earlier today by a gentleman who claimed that he is the president of an association.

Thanks for these great updates. My pet peeves:JPS has got to stop putting light posts in the middle of the sidewalk. It is a major hazard and helps contribute to the difficulties of using the road including wheelchair users or persons wanting to use strollers, even pedestrians. Where else do you go and see pedestrians having to step into the road because of light posts?
