Paternity Test Yes - Child Has Right to have Both Parents Added to Birth Record

MP Heroy Clarke
Heroy Clarke, the MP for St. James Central, plans to move a motion in the House of Parliament to have paternity tests done at birth. This concept of jacket and man haffi hug up jacket has gone on for too long! It has caused social problems and has let to violent crimes in  Jamaica.

Many fathers only found out that their child did not belong to them until a DNA test was completed as part of the process of filing for them to reside in the United States of America. It can be devastating for both the child and the father at that stage to get a negative result. I believe that the names of both parents should be recorded along with the child's name at the Registrar General's Department.

We should understand that a child has a right to know who are his/her biological parents. When it comes to talking about families, we seem to talk about the rights of the parents but we seldom hear about the rights of the children. If the child is adopted, then when that child becomes an adult, that child should have the right to know who is his/her biological parents.

Appeal For Kidney For Christopher Seaga

In two days, my blog featuring Anabella Seaga-Mian's appeal for someone to donate a kidney to her brother, has reached over 17,000 persons. I was touched by the love shown by those who read the blog. I have also noted some nasty comments made on a news paper social media page about the blog. Those persons who made such comments about our own Jamaican family in a time when a family member could end up losing their lives, must be very, very sick. We must though, not allow ourselves to be derailed by these evil detractors.

Christopher Seaga, his family and friends are now turning their attention to getting support for other persons who require dialysis treatment and also focusing on the need to have an organ donor bank set up in Jamaica. I have made contact with doctors at the University Hospital about this matter. The discussion has started and it needs to involve the whole nation. Many have died because they cannot afford the dialysis treatment nor can they afford an organ transplant. Now is the time to unite to see how we can make a change.

Vernon & Mitzy

Persons who are having kidney challenges and diabetics, need to come onboard with their families and let's see how we can make things better.

I spoke to Christopher's mother, Mitzy, and she wants to use this opportunity to get assistance to help the health sector in dealing with other cases similar to that of her son. She is concerned about the affordability of dialysis treatment. She told me that her son spoke to her about the challenges that many persons have in getting treatment.

In the past, Mitzy who was Mrs. Mitzy Seaga (Former wife of deceased PM Edward Seaga),  was the patron of the SOS Village in Stony hill. She has also assisted in getting doctors to come to Jamaica to provide treatment for Jamaicans.

Extensive Damage to Underground JPS Cables in Port Royal and Surrounding Areas

JPS customers in Port Royal and surrounding areas are likely to be without electricity supply for a while longer, because of the extensive damage to electrical underground cables by contractors working on behalf of the Airports Authority of Jamaica (AAJ).

Throughout last night and today (Wednesday, Nov 10), JPS teams have been carrying out meticulous excavation and testing of the cables, which were damaged in multiple locations on Tuesday evening by the AAJ contractors.  About one kilometer of electrical underground cable is involved. “We are working assiduously to complete damage assessment and testing, and do the necessary repair work as quickly as possible,” said Blaine Jarrett, JPS SVP Energy Delivery. “However, the situation is even more challenging because a section of the cable runs in the flight path underground the runway at the airport. This has slowed down the process, and also prevents us from putting in a temporary overhead work-around to supply power to the affected customers,” he explained.

JPS is unable to give an estimated time of restoration at this point, but the JPS SVP Energy Delivery promises that the company will continue working around the clock to resolve the situation.

Five JUTC Buses Damaged By Stones and Two Persons Injured

In a release sent out today, Wednesday, November 10, 2021, Cecil Thoms Corporate Communications Manager, says that five buses were damaged and two persons injured. The release states that there  in a spate of stone throwing incidents in Three Miles, St. Andrew last evening. A driver and a female passenger were wounded from windshield fragments to their eyes. Their condition is not considered life threatening.

In recent weeks, the Jamaica Urban Transit Company Limited (JUTC) has come under increased attacks by vandals. In Three Miles alone, the JUTC has recorded 29 incidents. Of that number, 19 occurred last month. With less than two months to go before the close of the year, there are 69 stone-throwing incidents. The windshield and side glass were mainly damaged in these incidents. In 2020, the Company recorded 63 stone-throwing incidents for the entire year.

Over the period, the company embarked on numerous initiatives aimed at curbing the incidents but with limited success. This morning at an emergency meeting to discuss the latest developments, Managing Director Paul Abrahams said the damage to the five buses at the same location requires special security intervention. “We have to take some bold decisions as the vandalism of our buses in quick succession is affecting our operations and our ability to serve the commuting public. These attacks seem to be deliberate and coordinated and as such we must further engage the Police High Command with a view to immediately arresting this serious problem,” Mr. Abrahams noted.

The JUTC Managing Director also instructed that with the scale of the matter, even more strident measures have to be taken to include the use of private security contractors and the use of technology.

It was suggested that a temporary suspension of service in the location be done, but this was placed on hold pending an assessment of the number of people that would be affected.

In the short to medium term, the Managing Director has given instructions for the re-engagement of Crime Stop to assist us in arresting this problem.

Hotspot areas for stone throwing incidents include sections of Three Miles, Bull Bay, Marcus Garvey Drive, Windward road in the vicinity of Paradise Street and Vauxhall High School, and Spanish Town Road.

  1. The paternity test for the child at birth is pointless if the mother does not know who the father of the child is. What happens if she does not know?

    2. The paternity test would not be pointless to the man who would otherwise be given the jacket! Also surely the woman should be able to narrow down the possibility of who is the father?

  2. I think it's a sensible thing to do,as it is believed that several of our children are fathered by the wrong father and that is totally wicked to the child and to the father who the child doesn't belong. Very good move.

  3. I don't think this would be helpful, just create needless strife and likely impact the child. It is inappropriate for the state to be involved in such matters or to force this on anyone.
Family is more than biology. If a couple is married and a child is born, let them be a family and have that child enjoy a sense of belonging. If one of them has doubt they can initiate testing themselves. Parenting is more than just biology. I think if you have intercourse with someone you should be prepared to accept a child that is produced. We need stop ignoring the obvious which is a crisis of family life in Jamaica with 84% of children are not born to married parents and many parents never having lived together. Paternity testing will not solve this issue.

    2. The patrinity test is not to solve the issues u mentioned. It to assign the right father to the child.

  4. Very good move. All children have a right to know their biological parents.I am sure that we have brother and sister having children together quite ignorant of the fact that they are siblings. More crazy Jamaicans, yes?

  5. MP Clarke raised an important issue. I heard one so-called feminist calling it fool-fool. That is unfortunate. She is not concerned about the one in four children in Jamaica who have been given to the wrong father, or the men who have been fitted with a jacket.

  6. At times i felt as if we are putting the cart before the horse, why not teach in our schools good values and attitudes so our young men can learn from an early age the responsiblities of becoming a man a father with dignity, why we cant, smh man!!, how long must we keep going around in circles?.

  7. I saw a child cried profuriously when she went to a man to collect lunch money and the man told her that he is not her father and she must let her mother tell her who is the right father. She ran away from home. Children need to know their parents.
