So Called Jacket Pickney a Sumady To!

Lois Grant
So, the MP For St James, Heroy Clarke, plans to move a motion in Parliament to have paternity tests  done at birth as too many Jamaican fathers have come to find out that that their child/children  do not belong to them… Kids they have been caring for and nurturing all their  lives. Usually this is found out when that father is filing for the US visa  and a DNA test must be done,  or in some cases when sickness strikes.

,Jamaica… it is said has the highest rate of Jackets. .as it’s termed caused from men getting ‘ bun’ . One in five child is said to be the product of a ‘jacket’. Faithfully married women are no exemption and seem to be the main perpetrators of this practice.. holding down the shame and recklessness of their adulterous  behaviour .. breaking the pledges of their marriage vows...

But while government now sees the need to address this long recognized  problem, in the interest of the man, what of the wounded jackets..the chidren?

I’ve heard so many painful stories from the man’s perspective. But listen to those of the children, now turned adults, many broken for life.

A who fa jacket?

One of my elderly friends shared a story of a young boy who at 7 found out his father was not his father . The discovery came when the father filed for his 2 children because the mother had died from HIV back in the early years when a cure was nowhere in sight. The father  discovered that the son he had nurtured and loved all his 7 years, was a jacket. Coupled with the curse of HIV, his decision was made immediately.

One day, and without a word to the son, the father took up his daughter to live with him in the States. My elderly friend witnessed that little boy running and crying behind the car as the father drove off to the airport with his daughter. She said the daughter looked on with tears, both screaming and crying  as her brother ran alongside the car screaming...“ Daddy Daddy..Don’t leave me”.

That little boy became the property of the community, moving from house to house because with the scorn  then of HIV..no one really wanted him. Through the help of neighbours and the few family members who would barely acknowledge him, he managed to migrate to the states in his teen years. He was able to track down his sister and tried again to get acceptance from his ‘father’. The rejection was even worse..more painful.

To cut a long story short, he became involved in gang and drug related crimes and is now a member of the state prison, serving 25 years . His  is not the only story.. there are several others out there who have suffered the rejection once the family shame and disgrace is uncovered.

Who will represent the shredded, torn and wounded jackets? What fault is it of theirs’s  if their careless and reckless parents bring them into this world through lies, deception, adultery  and fornication?

Where is the motion in Parliament that will help to save and protect them?

It seems we live in a Jacketed Democracy because if it's one in five means we perhaps in this 3million population have upwards of 600,000 JACKETS.If this is a significant source of domestic violence that would be a endemic pandemic
Jacket-21.If you examine the phenomenon carefully mothers give jackets are nnan attempt to do better for their children. They choose the most economically viable and brownest male as the father.
DNA tests at birth could cause War inna Hospital, war all round and roumours of war child and mother deaths and jeopardize a child's future. No to DNA tests/matching at birth to determine paternity.Store the DNA in a national DNA data base for future use if needed.Of my nine children based on Gayle's formula two are Jackets. If so no problem I am father and happy and even if I found a jacket among them I'd just have a good laugh as everything Irie.

We need to find out from the experts in that area where ,when, how to collect mass DNA to store where. Its a question worth exploring with the DNA checkers, how, when,
where and cost effectiveness of compilation etc.
This DNA collection let's say it's mandatory would become a legal/ human rights issue I am sure perhaps requiring prior written and signed permission to have it done.Thinking aloud i believe the police should get that right to store such data for convicted criminals and DNA samples from crime scenes should be in their data base as part of the crime fighting arsenal.

NO. Illegal use of the process. This is not a police state. Hell no.

Do you notice how some women are trying to make it looks like it's the doing of the men.

Let the war start in the hospital for the right reasons, it's the beginning of the end for the right reasons. Let the war be an extension of peace.

Have you ever heard of "the black sheep in the family" have you ever find out that a family member is a pastor and one is a thief? U ever wonder y, u ever wonder why women will go to the grave and not confess.

DNA test should be done at birth, no man wants to know the child he sugars all his life is not his,the pain of betrayal for so many years, will lead to violence and maybe even murder.

Micspen... You speak as a man but from what you are saying, you are a female. No real man would say anything like that. You would just laugh!no sah! This woman you love and trusted, did everything you possibly could to ensure she was comfortable, stayed a one burner, walk pass Pam,Mary and martha because you don't want to mash up your relationship with this woman who you love. Than to find out she a play round with one of your friends/nabour. Bro no real man would just laugh about that.

This jacket thing has been happening from time immemorial. It's nothing new but now that it has come to the fore we hope that the government will tackle it head-on

This piece of legislation if passed into law will add more protection and support our children. The government of Jamaica has a responsibility to all it citizens but more so it is responsible for all the children from birth to eighteen years in Jamaica. By the way, this piece of legislation will not go back in time but rather will take effect the minute it becomes a law so no one need to fear that secrets will be revealed. This legislation will support the matter of adults being truthful and responsible. This I hope will help to put an end to the many cases of adult male having sex with underage females which sometimes leads to pregnancy. This pregnancy more that often always lead to a (Jacket) or an unwanted child.

CAG:The DNA Bank sounds like a good idea. Otherwise, the testing at birth is not so bad, either.Whats good about the at birth idea is that, it would not necessarily take away pain and disappointment, but two other things would/might happen.(1)Women would be more careful and "think twice" before going in a particular directsion, wiith or wiithout abortion. (2)Disputes/issues could/would be settled earlier, including acceptance or not, thus minimising long-term pain etc for teenage and older children. However, the truth is that there is a biggger national/international "jacket" story/mistaken identity issue. It concerns the fact that virtually the whole world has given "Jesus"
multiple "jackets". This because neither Lord,God, nor Jesus is mankinds Creator/Heavenly father. Licklemore.

I think its,a great idea to introduce the DNA testing at birth and especially if there is doubt. I look back at my own family and truth be told.. I am ashamed when I see these women with 10 and 15 children for different men .seriously..are they even able to keep track and proper records? didthey just open their legs for every dick that came their way? are they able to stand on any moral ground now..to show their children what's right or wrong?

This piece has all the ingredients of a broken society, a society where pain, hurt, lying bring forth murder, suicide you name it, things dont have to be this way people there is a better way,can we not learn from others mistake?.

This article brings tears to.my eyes for the children. Not tbe big old tough back.mothers and fathers..I was just discussing it with an educator and she added another side to the stories. she spoke about the uptown men who used to sleep with the maidd..butbtjose msids dare not give that child his name. so the maid would give the man a yard the child. Oh my father. What a tangled web we weave when we practise to deceive. Bring on the DNA tests pls.
