Vernon L. Derby |
This is no joke, when effective April 1, 2022, I will be heard for the last time hosting a radio show in Jamaica.
Over the last 12 years I sometimes get as much as 4,000 reports from my listeners. This has meant dealing with thousands of issues. Sometimes it has meant short nights for me, but I am proud to have not only served you but also I have been able to initiate changes in our country which has benefitted us all.
Those of you who have known me a long time will be aware of my work with the church, community groups, non-governmental organizations, The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (one of the areas that I served in was being Chairman for the Festival Song Competition), teaching, working Air at Jamaica and hosting shows at the the now defunct Jamaica Broadcasting Competition. I was also involved in stage, radio productions and also voicing commercials. Many will recall that I assisted with the production of the Tastee Talent Competition for a number of years.
The question is where do I go from here? First I must thank my listeners and those supporters who have helped me along the way. Yes, the question is where do I go from here. There are other media houses that are showing interest in having me as a part of their team. You my loyal supporters and friends who have been my rock, can help to decide where do I go from here. I shall be listening. Add your comments to this blog and you can express what you think in other places.
I certainly welcome you prayers and opinions as I continue on this journey.
Walk good my friend.
Have a great day.

Very sorry to hear that. You have had an excellent show that has helped thousands of Jamaicans.
Are you serious and you are one of the person who let me keep listening to nationwide because your program opens up our eyes to a lot of things going to be miss
I am sorry to hear this. If you think you done, you jus a come.
What! You joking!....your show with your personality is one of those that is carrying the station. I try to listen everyday. I remember when you were hospitalized, the programme wasn't the same. You bring life in a unique way to AYS. Anyway, any station would be happy to have you as you will be an asset. Let me know where you are going, so I can sponsor your programme as I will always be listening to you wherever you land. It's 'all fools' days so I know this is a prank. You couldn't catch me this time ..baaaaay!🤣
Wow! You know Sir Derby, as I welcome aging, I have learned to trust God more and invest my energy in matters that facilitate me relating from my heart. Sir Derby, I dont know enough of your intentions, offers, thought processes et cetera to suggest your next move. However, before you move, rest up a bit. Remain open and listen to that "Still small voice of calm"- you will know your next move (if you dont already know)😊 Whatever the choice I believe you will continue to:As my Granny used to say, " Trust God and live good"
Thank you for the years of service and for keeping everyday Jamaican enlightened. You brought services to Jamaicans that normally they couldnt reach or know they could reach. You have called out ginnals ( hope is so it spell😊), held persons accountable and generally raised our standard of living. Yes, you read right. By providing information and access to information, we have been enlightened and our lives enhanced.
