Injured persons on the road at Llandovery |
Michael Spence Sent this message to me after learning about the major accident which occurred near Runaway Bay today. It is reported that at least two persons have died so far, and numerous persons have been injured:
This piece of road should be painted Red because it has taken so many lives over the years This road needs to be examined to see what is the major challenge there. The responsible authorities are in many cases getting away with murder and their usual response is to blame the victims always and engage in traffic law/fines, further oppress the motoring public with more taxes through the backdoor, front door and side doors - gas taxation. Pedestrians are also at a disadvantage - no sidewalks, no crosswalks. and pedestrians compete with motorists on busy thoroughfares.
For the Llandovery to Runaway Bay stretch and other roads in Jamaica we need to focus on accident prevention. Emphasis should be placed on all the 4 E's vis
- Education
- Enforcement
- Engineering
- Environment and Emergency care of road accident victims.
Our focus is always on enforcement but hardly ever on engineering of the roads including surface quality. With limited emergency care preparation and education the public must hold the authorities to account.
That piece of road I suspect engineering is a factor which impacts on the number of accidences. I take special care when using it as I have had customers who have lost their lives on it.

So true some thing needs to be done
ReplyDeleteIs really sad to know so much people has been loosing their lives because of these bad roads Those in charge must do something about it.
ReplyDeleteits not the damn Road.. its the crazy drivers..its stupidity...its ignorance..whonis Michael Spencer? an engineer ?
ReplyDeleteA Concerned Jamaican citizen he is as far as I know.
DeleteThe major cause is lack of discipline on the part of many drivers. Some overtake into on coming traffic, under the brow of a hill with total disregard for other road users. Driver education is key to making our roads safer. Revoking licences, heavy fine and imprisonment where necessary must be implemented. I am tired of scenes such as this.
ReplyDeleteI agree with all you've said. Those Brown's Town - Ocho Rios drivers use the road like a runway. I cringe when I'm on that road.
DeleteThey way these guys drive on the road ,if something is not done much of us won't leave in this country.they have put up cameras,is anyone monitoring them so theses bad drivers can get a ticket in the mail or a imagine of them violating publish in the media.
