Hopeton O'Connor-Dennie, one of my strong supporters and who served as a journalist for many years, has passed on. You might recall seeing Hopeton ensuring that he got his questions answered at press conferences. He was a regular caller to talk shows in particular my very popular At Your Service show. I have played his messages a few times on my new programme SpotOn at Riddim FM a few times.
Hopeton loved law, and used to call me to speak to the People's Lawyer, Wendel Wilkins on a regular basis. He loved photography and he spent a lot of his time takng pictures. A man who could hold his own as a singer, he was also a member of the choir at the Anglican Church in Stony Hill. He was also the chairman of the national public relations committee for the Anglican church.
Hopeton was probably as popular as those of us who host talk shows in Jamaica. He was not a man to mince words and did not hesitate to give some hard hitting punches to talk show hosts. Jamaicans will miss his calls on radio and we will miss his thoughts on national affairs. I will certainly miss his support and his critical assessments of my work.

ReplyDeleteoh nooo.i am so sorry to hear this news.Hopeton was fearless in his commentaries. he was a critical thinker. you knew where he stood on national issues and he made no apology. I worked with him at the OPM.. as he was always doing his own investigations on issues. condolences to his family and friends.
