News is being circulated on the Internet that world famous footballer, Pele is in hospital and is terminally ill. Pele a Brazilian was a footballer who dazzled the world with his football skills is a world legend. Later in life he got involved in politics. Reports indicate that he is suffering from bowel cancer, and he is no longer responding to his treatment.

Former JLP MP, Russel Hammond Has Died

The following is a statement from the JLP regarding the death of former JLP MP Russell Hammond:

Hammond was first elected MP for Westmoreland from 1983 to 1989.
He was a respected and successful businessman, philanthropist, and political representative.
Though he didn’t succeed in subsequent elections, he played a significant role in laying the foundation for the party's current success in the western parishes of Westmoreland and Hanover being a very active member of area council.
Prime Minister and Party Leader Andrew Holness says Hammond was a great friend of himself and the party as well as an important player in the development of his community.
“Hammond was a stalwart and an example of selfless dedication to his country. His memory will live on in the positive impact he has made in the lives of many people and his focus on the development of Westmoreland in particular”
The Jamaica Labour Party extends its deepest regret to his wife, children, friends, and colleagues.

Well Known Jamaicans With Health Issues

There are other well known Jamaicans who are having health issues at this time. Garnet Roper has health issues but I have had no recent update on his status. Former PM, The Most Hon. Portia Simpson I understand continues to be the fighter that she is. She is now enjoying the privacy of her private life with her husband. Former PM, The Most Hon. PJ Patterson who has been doing physiotherapy, is doing much better and is quite active. Dr. Marcia

Forbes former head of TVJ, and who is the head of the medio company Phase Three, continues to improve but that one is a tough battle. Freddie McGregor I understand is still in the hospital. I am using this blog to appeal to his family to say something to his many friends and relatives who have not heard any official information from the family about this beloved superstar, since information leaked out that he had a stroke and that he was in the hospital. Merrick Needham, I understand is also suffering from ill health and has been hospitalized.

I will appreciate any update from family members about these persons because I have been getting questions from persons in Jamaica, and the rest of the world enquiring about their health. It is expected that when you are well known, persons will become anxious about any deterioration in your health. One person contacted me recently to say that she was in a state of depression because she was unaware of the status of a well-known personality who she loves dearly.
