What Has Changed Since the New Traffic Act - Plus More?

There is a new Traffic Act and we have the same behaviour by even a policeman! Who will issue a traffic ticket to the police driver?

The following is a report from a listener to SpotOn With Vernon Derby:

Watch Dis Police Driver in Dis Video!

Coming exiting Mayfield Avenue are two lanes, one goes left and the other right towards Three Miles. There are also two lanes to enter Mayfield Avenue

I am in the right lane which means the police unit came and saw two vehicles over the continuous white line which means they are in the  right lane for traffic going in the opposite direction. The police instead of enforcing the law, joined the lawbreakers. Reducing the two lanes available for oncoming traffic to one lane.

No Foreigner on Di Constitutional Committee!!!

More Jamaicans are speaking about the Constitutional Committee that the government has set up. There is a loud cry for the Canadian Expert to be removed from the committee. If we are talking about changing the constitution and a significant amount of persons want this Canadian citizen to be removed from what should be a discussion by Jamaicans about our business then government must listen to the people.

If I was that expert, to really show how he functions as an expert especially when it comes to the development of the constitution of a country, I would remove myself if I am not welcomed. That would prove that you believe in democracy. You can always send you advice to us by email and it can be taken into consideration.

The question is, why so many lawyers are on this committee? Only lawyers have sense? Not even one farmer, one doctor, or one teacher?

This is not the way to start discussing changes to our constitution which should involve the people. We should start having Civics in schools now and our students should be discussing this matter. Our constitutions may need lawyers to draft it and they should draft it so that it can be read by non-lawyers but not to take over the whole committee.

  1. Having new acts passed with the same level of inadequate policing.
Ramped up policing with no new laws would prove more effective and less corruption ,"Lef or Write". Ramped up policing for a few PR days makes no difference.11,000 members of the JCF with the best talk and will in the world is at best good PR as nothing changes.

  3. Increased traffic fines is not about curving down traffic offences; it is about reeking in money from the poor. It is just another industry, just like tourism. Increased fines will never cause reduction in road accidents. Only a change of mindset can.
