Alma Mock Yen Crowned QORIHC Queen for 2024!

Alma Mock Yen

At 96 years young, Alma Mock Yen stands as the venerable beacon of inspiration, claiming the title of QORIHC Queen for 2024, making her the oldest awardee at this year's ceremony.

Amidst the splendour of the 7th annual Queens Of Reggae Island Honorary Ceremony (QORIHC), held at the illustrious Karl Hendrickson Auditorium at Jamaica College, Kingston, Alma Mock Yen was bestowed with this prestigious honour. Despite her challenges, the indomitable spirit of this veteran media legend propelled her to the podium, where she captivated the audience with her unwavering resolve and tales of triumph.

Affectionately known as "Miss Putus," Alma Mock Yen regaled the audience with anecdotes of her journey, which began at the tender age of 16. Among her proudest moments was a daring performance for visiting royalty, where she affectionately referred to the prince as "Bononoonus," a gesture that captured the nation's heart and earned her the spotlight in The Gleaner's headline, ultimately securing her job.

In her reflections, Alma Mock Yen also shared her pride in the accomplishments of her protege, Dr. Lantonette Stines, who fondly remembers watching dance rehearsals at her mentor's gate. Dr. Stines, now celebrating 40 years as a dance professor at the UWI Mona campus, embodies the legacy of resilience and dedication that Alma instilled in her.

The audience erupted in applause, echoing their admiration for a woman who has left an indelible mark across multiple domains - from the realms of media and academia to the performing arts, broadcasting, and literary spheres. As the torchbearer of a new generation, Alma Mock Yen's accomplishments continue to inspire awe, serving as a testament to the boundless potential that resides within each of us.
