Pearnel Charles Jr Poses Questions to Mark Golding

Press Release From The JLP - 2024/05/27:

Pearnel Charles Jr

Attorney-at-law and Member of Parliament for Southeast, Clarendon, Pearnel Charles Jnr. is insisting that PNP President Mark Golding explain a series of misleading statements he made concerning the split loyalty fiasco which has engulfed him.

The PNP President should also indicate why it took him so long to publicly confirm that his citizenship status does not reflect a full commitment to Jamaica.

“For an aspiring head of the government in Jamaica to now be embroiled in this fiasco that has led to questions about his commitment to Jamaica is a major problem. One of the questions he should answer is why he applied for a visitor’s visa in circumstances where he knows that he is a British citizen and the holder of a British passport. The country requires clarity”, Mr. Charles commented.

The Southeast Clarendon Member of Parliament says it is unfortunate that it was only after significant public pressure was generated that the PNP President confirmed that he remains a British citizen and under the force of British law.

Mr. Charles says there remains additional questions for the PNP President to answer concerning the split loyalty/allegiance controversy. The additional questions for the PNP President to answer publicly are as follows:

QUESTIONS FOR MARK GOLDING:

  1. When did you first acquire a Jamaican passport?
  2. When did you first apply for a US visitor's visa?
  3. When did you first apply for a UK visitor's visa?
  4. Why did you elect to apply for a UK visitor's visa in circumstances where you are a British citizen and the holder of a valid British passport?
  5. On attaining your Jamaican passport, did you ever travel utilizing your British passport?
  6. For absolute clarity, when did you last travel utilizing your British passport?
  7. During an interview, a few months ago on a popular social media vlog – ‘The Fix’, you specifically mentioned having a British passport as a child and indicated that you do not maintain it.
  8. What is your response to the suggestion that you misled the Jamaican people when you said that you had a British passport as a child without admitting that you still had a British passport as an adult?
  9. In a post from your account on social media on Saturday May 18, 2024 - in the face of intensified questions and concerns regarding your citizenship status, you outlined that prior to holding office in Government (2012) you acquired US and UK visas; presumably for travelling purposes.
  10. Why did you not admit then that you are citizen of Britain but gave the Jamaican people the impression that you only have a Jamaican passport and that you have always been travelling via visitor’s visa to the US and UK?
  11. Why did you complete a visa application form for the UK when visas are intended for non-UK citizens nationals and not UK citizens?
  12. How are the Jamaican people to believe that you responded accurately and truthfully on your application for a visa to visit the UK given the fact that you were and are a British citizen and at the time you completed the application for a UK visa, the holder of a valid British passport?
  13. How did you complete the UK visa application section that requires you to declare your country of citizenship?  Did you admit that you were a British citizen in your visa application?
  14. When did you last renew your British passport?
  15. Will you renounce your British citizenship and resign given that a significant body of public opinion is that you are reluctant to commit to Jamaica and have lost the trust of the Jamaican people to remain in the post of Opposition Leader which is a key constitutional office?

  2. Vernon how about making an effort to being a real journalist. Show your colour but why do you want to push an agenda that is misleading. You are well aware the the Opposition Leader has been operating within the laws as outlined by the Jamaican constitution. Especially on this is trumped issue.
Unlike the PM who has not shared his financial records publicly, and is yet to have his Statutory declaration certified by the Integrity Commission. Disappointed. SMH

  3. According to a comment on this blog, one would assume that it is OK to post a PNP release but not a JLP one. Here is one of the PNP releases I posted: Click here

  4. Here is another PNP statement which had substance so it was posted. Click here It does not matter whether one supports the PNP or the JLP. What matters is if one supports what is right for Jamaica and its people.

  6. Vernon by his actions was measured and found short. The fact that he panhandles to a corrupt JLP admin is pathetic. He capitulates to them and is now challenged when he should highlight their misdeeds. I wish him well and hope that The Most High YAHUAH will bless him by awakening him from his sleep.
