Act of Corruption by the Government to Return Jamaica to Some of its Darkest and Most Regrettable Political Conduct Says MP Fitz Jackson MP

The following was sent out by MP Fitz Jackson, MP for South St. Catherine:

Fitz Jackson MP
I take note of remarks made by Cabinet member Minister Warmington as carried in the media, that the government will be gerrymandering the political boundaries in St. Catherine to ensure control by the Jamaica Labour Party. His statement on behalf of the Gov't confirms the suspicions of most Portmore residents and the People's National Party since the efforts announced to impose a parish status on Portmore.

This planned action of the Gov't represents a savage assault on democracy and the remarkable gains made over the past 43 years with the Electoral Advisory Committee playing the leading role on political boundaries for both constituency and divisional boundaries. This confirmed plan of Prime Minister Holness' administration represents a reversal of the successes of the leadership of past leaders of both the JLP and PNP in detribalizing the election process in Jamaica.

This is yet another act of corruption by the Government to return Jamaica to some of its darkest and most regrettable political conduct. This must be resisted by all well-thinking Jamaicans now.

  1. I can't believe that we are seeing this level of open barevfaced corruption. Is it that elected leaders no longer understand or care about accountability and that they example they must set? Or is this just another form of chopping the line?
