The Meteorological Service has:
Maintained the Flash Flood Warning for low-lying and flood-prone areas of St. Mary and Portland.
Upgraded the Flash Flood Watch to a Flash Flood Warning for St. Thomas, and Discontinued the Flash Flood Watch for the remainder of the Island.
Effective until 5:00p.m. on Thursday, November 28, 2024. The Broad Trough across the central Caribbean continues to produce a large area of organized showers and thunderstorms across the region including Jamaica.
Rainfall observations indicate that moderate to heavy showers affected northeastern parishes since morning and light to moderate showers elsewhere.
The forecast is for mostly cloudy skies with periods of showers and thunderstorms to continue across the Island, and especially across eastern parishes through to Thursday evening. Due to the periods of rainfall over the last few days, there is a high possibility of ground saturation. As a result, flooding and landslides are likely to occur across eastern parishes.
Additionally, fishers on the Cays and Banks, especially on the south coast, are urged to exercise extreme caution as sea conditions will continue to deteriorate in the vicinity of showers, thunderstorms and strong winds.
A FLASH FLOOD WARNING means flooding has been reported or will occur shortly.
Motorists and pedestrians should not attempt to cross flooded roadways or other low-lying areas as strong currents are likely. Residents in low-lying areas should be on the alert for rising waters and be ready to move quickly to higher ground.
