Phillip Hines, Jamaican Living in The US - His Position on Breakdown in Law and Order in Jamaica

Mr Holness says the PNP is responsible for the breakdown in law and order....

No Mr Holness!! Empirically and anecdotally, this is not true. The truth we know is that since 1979, there has been a trans-constituency movement of criminals and criminality out of Western  Kingston to strategic constituencies. Every election since 1980, there has been an "invasion" of Tivolites into these strategic constituencies where the unemployed and unattached youth are recultured in the art of urban politics ( guns, drugs, intimidation, "shacking up" and other forms of violent actions.  This was evidenced in  2010  when the offspring of the " shocking Up"  descended in Tivoli to defend their strongman  Dudus. The strategy was fine-tuned in the year 2000 with the introduction of modern urban and sub-urban politics in western Jamaica, Central Jamaica, and Western St Thomas. We now see the manifestations of  the rise in criminality in those specific geographic areas.

The PNP has absolutely nothing to do with the rise in criminality.  It was the ill-conceived desperate political strategy that mushroomed out of control. Instead of blaming the PNP   Mr Holness should be fine-tuning social interventions,  training and retraining, reculturisation, and the improvement in the quality of life of the people. We are reaping what was sown by power-hungry political leaders aided and abetted by a corrupt press and private sector. They all know a thing or two because they have seen a thing or two.

I totally agree with Phillip! When I was a youngster growing in rural Jamaica, between 1970 and 1980 the first time I experienced political violence was when JLP operatives came into South Trelawny to intimidate people with guns to vote for their party.
