JLP Press Release - 20250219
Government Senator and Senior Member of the Jamaica Labour Party's Communications Taskforce, Marlon Morgan, is denouncing as false, vulgar, irresponsible, and desperate an Instagram post by Opposition Leader and PNP President, Mark Golding, in which he intimates that the issuance of traffic tickets is being driven by the Government's revenue projections.
Golding made the suggestion in an Instagram post on Tuesday this week.
Senator Morgan asserted: "It is quite obvious that in their desperate quest for political power, Mark Golding and the PNP are now 'going for broke', and are quite prepared to sink further into the political morass as part of their vulgar and despicable attempt to resonate with voters, even at the expense of orderly and upright conduct in our society".
He argued:
"Opposition Leader Mark Golding is fully aware of the devastating effects disorder and reckless use of our roadways have had on many families and our nation as a whole. For the last several years, Jamaica has recorded hundreds of deaths annually as a result of crashes along our roadways; many of which were avoidable but came about due to reckless and irresponsible driving".
Senator Morgan added:
"Instead of using his platform as Opposition Leader and President of one of the two main political parties in Jamaica to promote responsible road usage and full compliance with the new Road Traffic Act, Mark Golding has seen it fit to attempt to tap into and exploit the ire of motorists who have been issued traffic tickets due to violations of the Road Traffic Act.
Senator Morgan concluded:
"A disturbing and disgraceful signal is being sent to the onlooking public when a holder of high political office in this country takes to social media and seeks to link the police's enforcement of our road traffic laws with the Government's revenue projections. Mark Golding needs to realize that the kind of political desperation he has been exhibiting and the political morass in which he is wallowing, have no place in the more harmonious, orderly and prosperous Jamaica the Andrew Holness-led Jamaica Labour Party Government is creating. An orderly and more prosperous country is precisely what we as decent law abiding citizens desire, and we take a very dim view of political leadership that does not accord with these aspirations, but instead, exploits people by promoting or otherwise giving succor to disorder, gimmickry and irresponsible conduct".
Editors Note
That is not a bad idea, Senator Morgan. Collecting taxes from those who break the law, should result in decent citizens paying fewer taxes.
They are power hungry so they will try everything but the good thing people get wise now they are not fool fool like one time
ReplyDeleteIt has been said over the years that traffic police have a quota; a number of tickets they have to issue within a given time period.
ReplyDeleteIf this is indeed true, then this could only be done to fill the coffers. Motorists have the option to contest these tickets in court. Some rather to just pay up.
This is reckless politics and could jeopardize the safety of our roads. Equally, motorists should desist from paying money to get off as this money goes straight into the pockets of corrupt persons.
