A piece of history and reminder to why USA and other countries are partly responsible to give Ukraine uncompensated support! Yes, Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons in the 1990s. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, Ukraine inherited the third-largest nuclear arsenal in the world, which included approximately 1,600 strategic nuclear warheads. However, in 1994, Ukraine agreed to give up these nuclear weapons under the Budapest Memorandum, which was signed by Ukraine, Russia, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
In exchange for its commitment to denuclearization, Ukraine received security assurances, including respect for its sovereignty and territorial integrity. The process of dismantling Ukraine's nuclear arsenal was completed by 1996. However, the security guarantees provided through the Budapest Memorandum have been a subject of significant debate, especially following Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014 and its ongoing military actions in Ukraine, raising questions about the effectiveness of these commitments.

Based on history, that bit of information is true. But, as they say, history is the greatest teacher. The US needs to stop acting as a class monitor because they are not doing a good job.
ReplyDeleteBased o the full history that bit of information is grossly misleading because it is presented as the reason the US should support Ukraine and present Russias annexation of Crime as an act of aggression but I can understand because the truth would put her visa at stake. The Annexation of Crimea was a necessary action to protect Russia from the US and it's proxies as they activated their plan to destroy Russia, beginning with the regime change they were successful with in Ukraine 2014. Significant information re Russia's annexation of Crime is that not one person died
DeleteWhat is currently happening in the UKRAINE is because USA President Trump is illiterate and too small minded to comprehend World History. Stafford Haughton
ReplyDeleteIt is not only Donald Trump who is small minded. The American people are to be blamed as well. I'm not sure that much consideration was given to what a Donald Trump presidency would mean for world peace.
DeleteWhat is happening in Ukraine began from 2014 and escalated year after year with the government of Ukraine bombing the Russian speaking residents of Ukraine who lived in the East of Ukraine because they refused to give up their language and their culture and the installment of a anti Russian government by the US.
