There is a shocking practice taking place in the public sector, and it must be cauterized immediately. There are a few public servants who are using their positions in the public sector to push their political agenda. The president of the Civil Service Association and other union heads need to tell these persons to stop playing politics now!
When a public servant takes forever to carry out a task or frustrates those who are trying to help their country, you don't have to ask. They believe that they are sabotaging the government alone, but they are sabotaging themselves and the nation. Jamaica has dropped down on the World Press Freedom list. When you are slow to give or refuse to give information to the press, you are adding to the perception that we are not supporting freedom of the press.
Today, a simple request was made to the head of a public entity to do something that is of national interest, and he just gave an excuse. He is now not responding to any calls. This is indicative of someone who is playing politics.
Governments come and go, but public servants are there to follow and to carry out government policies, whether they like such policies or not.
When you go to a government entity and you are not treated properly, you know the plan and the strategy. When you are frustrated because of poor service, you start to curse the government. Some of you in the public sector need to leave the public sector and join your political colleagues. Nothing is wrong with being a member of a political party, but keep it out of the public sector.
If you are in the public sector and you share certain information with another political party, you are not doing so to help your country. Yu eena big politics. If someone does something wrong in a government entity, there are various agencies one can report the matter to. You can even report it to a media person who, hopefully, would only be interested in getting the facts. When you share information with political aspirants, the main interest of that political aspirant is to use the information to gain political power.
Elections are just around the corner. You don't know who will be in Jamaica House. Don't play with your job, your future and the country's future.
On another matter regarding those few who are playing politics in the public sector. Those politicians who get information from these public servants, be careful. You could be misled, and you end up in hot water.
There is far more to what I am saying, but I know my supporters will understand. A no ebrey ting good fi talk!
Those who have ears to hear, let them hear.
God bless the majority of those genuine and hardworking public sector workers who know what is good customer service.

Unfortunately, this is not new. A sad fact. Importantly, when the behaviour is observed it definitely hurts the citizens and may or may not hurt a political party.
ReplyDeleteThe reason why this behaviour goes unchecked is because everything that goes wrong in the public sector is politicians' fault. Civil servants are never accountable. So, for example, if a road is in bad condition and needs paving, the media will push a mic in the face of the relevant minister to demand answers and the relevant state agency is not questioned on their dereliction of duty. So, they can always afford to be reckless and to hide behind the politician.
DeleteI agree with you Mr. Derby. I personally have my own list of some who serve no purpose at all and should immediately go.
ReplyDeleteThe country is a sham. There should be an organization in place mandated to investigate and relief these Rugrats of their positions as they are holding the nation back, and it is already backward.
Persons in authority are aware of the situation, yet do nothing about it. Why? Because the system is rigged aka corrupt. Yet, they speak of fighting corruption, but what exactly are they doing? They are pretending to fight corruption because the people possess a warped perception of what corruption is suppose to look like.
