The
2025 Jamaica Diaspora Northeast Conference closed its curtains not just on an event but on the launch of a powerful movement. Held over three days in Philadelphia,
the conference brought together hundreds of Jamaican nationals and descendants
from across the region, unified by purpose and driven by a shared commitment to
Jamaica’s future.
More than a forum for dialogue, this year’s conference
focused on action. Participants tackled critical issues from immigration,
education, and policing to youth development. They looked at health equity and economic
opportunity through bold strategies and innovative solutions.
Key outcomes include:
·
Strategic Partnerships: New collaborations were formed between U.S.-based organizations and
Jamaican institutions to support youth mentorship, healthcare outreach, and
educational exchange programs.
·
Hope Garden
Reinvestment Project: A diaspora-led
initiative was launched to revitalize public spaces in Jamaica, fostering civic
pride and community wellness.
·
Diaspora Skills
Registry: A centralized platform was created
to match diaspora professionals with Jamaican agencies seeking technical
expertise.
·
Civic Engagement: The conference reignited commitment among diaspora members to serve
both locally and in Jamaica, boosting participation in advocacy and community
development.
·
Adopt-a-Clinic
Initiative: Renewed interest was generated in
this impactful healthcare support program.
·
Movement Expansion: New leaders and participants joined, strengthening the
sustainability of diaspora engagement.
·
Regional Collaboration: Interest grew in hosting a biennial Caribbean diaspora conference,
promoting cross-island unity.
Looking ahead, the Northeast region will host quarterly
town halls and prepare a strategic presentation for the 2026 Global Jamaica
Diaspora Conference in Jamaica. Plans are also underway to launch a Biennial
Traveling Northeast Conference, rotating across U.S. states to expand
reach and deepen local engagement.
