JUTC Urges Public to End Stoning of Buses Following Multiple Incidents

JUTC Press Release, July 19, 2025

The Jamaica Urban Transit Company Limited (JUTC) is again appealing to members of the public to desist from the dangerous act of stoning its buses. Six incidents occurred on the night of July 18, 2025, bringing the total number of attacks to 10 since Wednesday, July 16, 2025.

The most recent incidents occurred in the following areas:

1.     Vicinity of Power Plant, Hunts Bay

2.     Vicinity of Marverly Avenue near Drew’s Land

3.     Vicinity of the Marverly Bridge

4.     Pembrook Hall

“These attacks are not only reckless but put the lives of our drivers, conductors, and passengers at risk,” said JUTC Managing Director Owen Ellington. “What is even more disheartening is that these include some of our newly commissioned buses vital assets intended to improve the commuting experience for thousands of Jamaicans daily. We must protect them.”

The JUTC is reassuring staff members to remain calm and focused on the performance of their duties. “We understand the anxiety these incidents have caused, but we ask our team to stay vigilant and committed as we work closely with law enforcement to bring an end to this spate of attacks. We are confident about early success against these malicious cowards,” Mr. Ellington added.

Stoning buses can cause severe injuries, loss of life, and significant disruptions to public transportation services. Residents in affected communities and across the island are urged to work with law enforcement to identify perpetrators. Service on all routes will resume today as management remains steadfast in its commitment to the safety and well-being of commuters and staff.

Members of the public with information are encouraged to report incidents by messaging or calling JUTC on WhatsApp at 876-570-1789 or by contacting the nearest police station.

Editor's Note

Sending out a press release will just be sharing information with well-thinking Jamaicans. This release will not mean anything to those evil people bent on destroying the buses.

Put undercover police on the buses, and also for the next three months, have a group of Emergency Alert Bike Riders who will provide assistance when buses are attacked.

Register commuters to be volunteer inspectors. Reward them when they help you to successfully catch the perpetrators.

  1. This is a more proactive approach:. Deploy undercover police officers on the buses to deter and respond to potential threats
