Roehampton Drive Needs Attention

Unfortunately, as with other aspects of public safety, prevention is ignored, and very often even after fatalities, there are no changes made. There is an example from Cayman that I always remember. There was a fatal crash at a roundabout when a car skidded and the driver lost control. Within 3 days of the accident, a series of parallel grooves were cut into the road to increase traction. In Belize, motorists are forced to reduce speed at the approach to major 4-way intersections by a series of low bumps.

Speaking of prevention, or rather non-prevention, I suppose the authorities will wait until there is a fatality on Roehampton Drive before putting in speed control mechanisms. The road, which goes through a residential area, is a racetrack for bikes and cars. There is little peace late at night as the loud bikes race up and down. It has been reported to the police with little effect. If a patrol happens to be in the area, there is a temporary respite. If not, better sleep with your earplugs.

This will be sent to the Commissioner of Police, the NWA and the MP for the area.

  2. It's a relentless torture from mainly motorbikes and this takes place for .most of the day starting at about 8am and eases (not stopped) about 2am. It seems that there is a competition among bikers as who can have the loudest muffler. We have written to the police and they have done NOTHING!! HELP HELP Mr. Commissioner.
